Anyone else fancy this? It's out Friday (14/10) sounds like it's Minecraft with a bit of a plot/some direction. Seems to be scoring well and a lot of people talking favourably about it on podcasts.
It's also coming to Vita, although I'm struggling to find any info about the EU version. If it's decent on Vita I'll pick it up.
Yeah, I fucking love the demo - basically feels like a 16bit Zelda type action RPG mixed with Minecraft construction that, crucially, there's a compelling reason for (to build the village/town and its defenses, provide facilities for friendly NPCs etc.)
IMHO demo gives you a pretty good feel for the game so if you're curious, give it a shot.
Aye, your villagers request stuff for you to build, reminds me of Dark Cloud.
from the DQ community thread singlehandedly sold me on Builders. It's gone right to the top of my to play list, so right after DQVII, which I'm only managing to get an hour on each week. Could be a while.
This is soooo good. If anyone liked the demo, just wait until you get past that. Just had to force myself to turn the PS4 off and stop playing. It really opens up and even though there's quests for me to follow, there's also a ton of things I want to do to my town.
Was a little worried about inventory and chest management (everything has to be sorted into different chests in Minecraft) but my worries were quickly put to bed -
Spoiler:
you very quickly get a chest that you can access from anywhere, and even craft things using materials in there and not in your inventory.
It'd be a nightmare without this.
Early days but it has sucked me right in. Can't wait to get back on it later. So much to do.
The way it drip feeds you new stuff is perfect. Go do a quest, get new stuff, return and obsess over your town. Go on little wanders and find hidden NPCs and chests etc. I love it.
I've learned so many recipes and ways to make and upgrade rooms, yet I feel I've barely even scratched the surface.
My humble little town so far, spoilered in case people want to keep things a surprise:
My one criticism is the camera actually. Gets a bit wonky when you start deep mining. I actually assumed you could only mine so far tbh, but seems there's a fair bit of leeway as far as that goes.
You can click R3 to re focus the camera closer in on yourself when in a tight space to make it a bit easier, but it's still a bit wonky. Not the end of the world though, game is too good otherwise.
The thing I love most is that you feel like you're slowly building an old school RPG town, and it really begins to feel lived in with your townfolk bustling about. I've spent more time tinkering and rebuilding than quests so far. It's really easy to knock down and rebuild.
Yeah I found the demo could really do with a 1st person camera mode for when you're mining or go into a ground floor room when you've got multiple floors in a building.
Got into a bit of a faff trying to get out of a hole I'd dug when just messing about mining.
I like your dinky little houses Frantic. I've basically gone the opposite route with a 30 x 30 block fort! lol! I was worried about exposure to enemies, so i basically shoved all my little rooms into one stronghold.
Its a wonderfully relaxing game. I could play it for hours.
There's all sorts of different blocks and decorations so far, and I haven't even ventured past the first bit. Reckon there'll be tons more stuff unlocked.
Just jumped on for an sneaky hour, it's really hard to turn it off once it has sucked you in.
It's perfect for baby time Tiger. There's even an item you can craft that takes you safely home for when your cub starts to cry. I tried to play Dark Souls when Elliot was a baby. That went well.
Think this'll be on my Santa list. Cheaper by then, and a ice January game when there'll be less social shite. Plus fh3/gow4/hexcells/FFXV distractions obvs.
