The Stu's Top 100 Tribute Thread of Top 100s
  • Dividing into consoles then getting into the mindset I was in at the time makes it easier to add games like Robocod.
When I think of Robocod I think of being 6 years old, playing it in my PJs, smelling of Matey bubble bath hoping I can progress that bit further before the shout of "bed time"

That's exactly the kind of thing I wanted - a real mix of modern greats, classics and nostalgia. Top list, I'll add it to the others.

  • Another top selection. Amped is a fine game I'd completely forgotten about! Must seek that out again.

Also, @Liveinadive being only six when he played Robocod makes me feel very, very old...
Mostly an idiot. Live: thedarthjim / Instagram: mrjalco / Twitter: @MrJalco
  • OK, I did this. I tried to put them in some sort of order as well, although a lot of things could easily swap places.

I've also done mini reviews for all 100 (at the time) on page 15 of the thread.

It's mostly games that I've enjoyed playing repeatedly or exhaustively even after they're finished, with a smattering of particularly memorable one-off experiences and some that bring back memories of specific times. Formats are the ones I played them on, not necessarily the best version.

  • @moot and @jon - your lists have been added. I'm gonna have a proper look at them later but my initial reaction is that Jon and I share quite a few entries whereas Moot...I don't think our taste could be more different ;)

I've been making a list, checking it twice and all that.  One thing's for sure, it won't contain one hundred games.  I won't pad a list just to get it up to a number.
    Get schwifty.

100 shouldn't require padding. You call yourself hardcore...
  • I found it about right. There's no real padding and not much that I was really bothered about having to cut.

I don't know that I've ever called myself hardcore, but I love games and have been playing them since pong.  But I've now slipped back into an old habit of only playing, and I mean properly playing, about six or seven new games a year.  As I now tend to play primarily RPGs these days, which chew up a lot more time than the average game, coupled with the fact I like to replay many of the older games I love, I just don't get through as many new games as most of you seem to.

So not as big a pool of games to choose from in the first place then, but also, as I started compiling a list last night I found that there were plenty of games I could add that I really liked, but that weren't really special, and would just muddy the waters between those I loved, or those that felt seminal, and those that were just great fun.
    Get schwifty.
  • @jon. Smash court tennis is a great choice. Underrated and way better than super tennis.

    I doubt it :D

May attempt later... 100 seems high though, so some will be fairly arbitrary, in a deeply hypocritical way...
  • @jon. Smash court tennis is a great choice. Underrated and way better than super tennis.
Yeah. Was fortunate enough to have access to SNES multitap, pads and regular gatherings of friends at the time, so that made the difference. See also Super Bomberman.

The SNES was the only console I've really got to play 4-player same room games on. Micro Machines and World Cup Striker were the other favourites (although Striker's indoor footy is why it made the list). Even managed to do a good chunk of 3 player Secret of Mana, which was a unique kind of experience then.
