Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • I am a little out of the loop but I had only really noticed it with Fantasy Flight and GW
  • This is where the costing could price people out of the hobby. I am currently managing a new big board game every six months, not too bad I guess, but there are so many more that I would love to play (currently eyeing up Mysterium as my next big purchase). You also cannot wait for them to go cheap after they have been out a while as they just go out of print!

  • I guess where you get a kickstarter for a game that goes to 10m there's probably a lot of people who think there's a lot of cash swirling. The other thing is that given that large amount of games from Germany the new exchange between here and Europe could be having an effect.

This is why the smaller games like the ones i mentioned over the page are good. Low investment/high return.
  • Yep, the little games arw definitely a good shout. Welcome to the Dungeon is a cracking little game and a few rounds of a selection of smaller games is a lovely way to spend an evening.

  • Speaking if smaller games, has anyone played the Game of Thrones Hand of the King game? Noticed it is available at a fairly random website and for about 13 quid...

  • Have any of you lot used Wayland Games before?

I have placed an order with them for some Warhammer bits as they have 15-20% which makes the Start Collecting Boxes insanely cheap, but it's all listed as 'Available to Order' and so my payment has gone but I have no idea when I get my toys.
  • Yeh, I've used them for some Star Wars x-wing stuff a year or two back, seemed fine.
Stuff was a pre-order it got released by FFG and turned up, nothing to report!

I used them once and never again. Their website is awful. Available to order and you've no idea when you'll actually get it.

I use Element Games now for most miniature related stuff. Their website tells you exactly when stuff will be in, and they deliver next day most of the time if you order before 3pm. The one time it didn't come right away they immediately emailed me and apologised and it was only a day late after that.
  • Aye I have emailed them a bit of BS aboutneeding it for a gift. Hoping they can cancel cos then I can just go straight to element who have the start collecting boxes I want for about £2.50 extra

Heh. I did the same, got a full refund.

Element is great. I've been in the shop a few times, their gaming centre is insane. There's a bar in it too. Wish I lived closer to it.
  • Good to hear! Hopefully they reply soon enough for me to order before 3pm

You get a free pen and mint too. Worth the £2.50.
  • I emailed Wayland and they got back to me immediately with an ETA so I dont feel too bad now. Will keep Element in mind in the future when I definitely want something ASAP.

That's cool. They took ages to reply to me.

Where do you sell? I'm close to having my hand forced on this and fear I might have to shift some soon.

  • I just gave mine to a charity shop.

It's like donating £1-200 for free and low hassle.
  • I just sell my stuff to Frantic and Revel

Anyone have recommendations for good games to play with kids around five? I was looking at Rhino Hero and What A Performance if anyone's played either but other suggestions welcome.

Cheers, Franny. I'd looked for Zoowaboo actually but it seems hard to get hold of. Folk are asking crazy prices on eBay. I'll check out the other ones as well though.

Hmm didn't realise. I managed to grab a copy for peanuts at The Works a while ago.

Speaking of The Works, has anyone been in one recently? Any new games knocking about?
  • Seems like their rich seam of games has died a bit. That was a great time.

I've been playing Geist blitz. I got it for six pounds from John Lewis. It's a speed game but you could let the kid win sometimes.

The game is five nice little objects (grey mouse, blue book, red chair, white ghost and green bottle). and you turn a card and it either includes an object that matches the object (eg a green bottle) or if there is no exact match you pick up the thing not represented at all (so there might be a grey ghost and green chair in which case you have to pick the blue book up).
  • I know this isn't the podcast thread.
But I interviewed Jamey Stegmaier from Stonemaier games and he was a bloody gent and a half.
