I went back to part of cunt forum (its actually two, both relating to each other, the other I won't even go into it as its the one that mainly fucked me off completely the other day) to fight some of the hate, fueled by one guy claiming Universal Income is a joke because some people (poor) might piss said benefit up the wall by going to Magaluf, as they do now, aka a carry on of the 'they've got big TVs wank'. I included sources and such to highlight just how much vitriol and anger there is within those whose voice means fuck all these days (I didn't touch on poor immigrants as its not a sector I have much experience in, bar a few I see at my 'job club'). I can copy and paste it if you want an idea of that aspect, Liv, its shit I see first hand.

This country is monumentally, as in completely, fucked to the core right now. The problem is a hell of a lot of the population don't realise it, or if they do, its easily ignored in their minds.

Another guy was essentially claiming that if you grew up in an area with friends, family etc, and the council won't offer you a place there but will in, say, the other side of the fucking country, you should accept it, as people who work sometimes have their rent put above their means and have to move. As if the rent is put up, so they quit the job and move from Manchester to fucking Dundee or something. Oh and those in Kensington in such flats may get more housing benefit than those in, say, Hull, so they shouldn't be there as it causes anger and resentment amongst the working classes. This latter guy is on the dole.

These people exist. They have no emotional attachment to a class so to them, they are as they are to the Government. A number on a spreadsheet, a statistic.

I'd also add that they might also have strong support networks (friends, acquaintances, the local cafe staff etc) and the sense of maintaining a connection is important in recovery. Some people will have to leave due to how they cope with the trauma. Others will equally need to remain in the area.

You see this in smaller towns with strong community cohesion after major disasters like bushfires. Some people have the drive and desire to rebuild and others need the help but still want to stay. They inevitably take a number of years to process the grief and trauma and return to a sense of normality, but they should be afforded the choice to remain. 

Regarding @Liveinadive 's post up above. That to me reads like a normal, human response of empathy. It makes you feel guilty realising how you might have been towards other people but surely with new knowledge you can always try to do nicer things. 

I was listening to an interview on LNL with a woman who wrote the book "You must come alone" on some encounters with ISIS in 2014. She was saying that it is incredibly important to make "outsiders" in any context feel welcomed and included and part of the society. Maybe that's just the attitude we should all have. We don't need to share the same beliefs as everyone, but we do need to share the same cities and its much nicer if we're friendlier to each other.

A generation ago housing was 5-6 times your yearly salary. It was possible to get a mortgage on a single salary. What is it now? x10 x12 x15?

The housing crisis is the biggest stagnant millstone in the economy and there's scant few politicians worldfuckingwide who care to do anything about it. How many of them are also Landlords, despite that being a clear conflict of interest.
