Both Sony and Xbox have been signing marketing deals for 3rd party multiplats for generations, god knows how much Sony formed over to Activision for the Destiny and CoD marketing rights. There’s nothing particularly unusual about that.

SoT is a game as a service though isn't it? You're not getting the full package at release, content will be rolled out over time.

Seems above average, and the genre is fairly empty of decent examples, but it's just Guns of Icarus, is isn't it? I have heard as many people slating it as praising it, though. Either way, it's really not my kind of thing.

I’ve never heard of Guns of Icarus so can’t compare, but the experience of SoT is like nothing I’ve had in any other game and it’s tricky to put my finger on why. There’s some combination of the gorgeous visuals and the incredibly tactile way that you have to manipulate the sails and raise the anchor which just grounds you in this gorgeous world in a way I don’t think I’ve ever experienced before. Add in some friends and you’ve got a winner.

It's basically steampunk Sea of Thieves in air ships. PC gamers have been playing this style of game for years; I imagine a lot of them are reacting to SOT like they did to Halo.

I’d played plenty of FPSes before Halo, both on PC and on consoles, the suggestion that the only reason that I love it is because I was starved of the genre on consoles is daft as fuck, man.

Thing is MS actually need to go the other way and hype the shit out of stuff. Hype may not work for the cultured gamer (Metroid Prime 4 notwithstanding) but Joe public laps up hype. MS just need a decent PR team to push out whatever exclusives they have. Assuming they have any.

Didn't mean to. FTR, I barely game on PC and think it's an awful platform. I was just trying to give detail about why I find it dull, beyond it simply not being my kind of thing.

Threw in the Halo comment because the thought amused me: PC nerds getting annoyed at something that is fairly good because they don't understand the extra love it's getting, beyond the normal level for something good, as it's a new experience for others.
