I've been using neoliberalism as a term well beyond its strictly economic definition, as a sort of dominant logic of the age. I don't know what better describes the kind of cultural and social atmosphere we have, and it seems to me the thing we all have to deal with nowadays, no matter what our worldview may be.

It is a mess, but I think it’s a mess that often comes from a fairly consistent logic or ideology, so it’s not the random free-for-all it might first appear to be. 

If anything it’s the neoliberal-inspired idea of complete self-reliance and a kind of background pressure to maximise our potential in all areas of life that create confusion, resentment and alienation.

It's a bad idea to fund ongoing public expenditure by printing money. You get into a trap then and that can / does lead to uncontrollable inflation (uncontrollable isn't the word as it suggests skyrocketing inflation, which needn't be the case, but it's hard to bring it down when you need to). 

One-off public infrastructure developments and stuff though, as long as it's managed, print away. It can even be good for the rich in terms of boosting the overall economy. 

But the people who control the mainstream right-wing parties don't see it that way. They want small govt and any extra spending to be taken in the form of loans from them. So fuck you and your common sense, textbook economics, there's profits to be had.
