Halo, is it me you're looking for?
  • If they keep the BR a 5sk, kill times are going to be too long.
    GT: Knight640
  • It's OK, Knight, just buy the 4 shot DLC for your BR. Only 400MSP.
  • Hopefully damage modification will do that for free ;)

To be optimistic for a second, movement and jumping look decent in that video. The guy playing can't aim to save his life but it's possible the auto aim is lower too.

Ignoring the maps, and provided you use Title Update settings to good effect, Reach is MUCH better than Halo 3. Unfortunately it's really hard to find good Title Update settings in the standard Reach playlists.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Knight?

In other news, I quite like the idea of getting a load of maps for free if you buy the Limited Edition, assuming it's post-release DLC. (E.g., if this were Halo 3, everything up to and including Mythic 1 for nowt.) But I don't like the idea of half the maps costing money to those who didn't pony up the extra moolah for the LE. TL;DR - fuck day one DLC.

But the idea of paid customisation load outs for your Spartan? Fuck that noise. So they guy who's got more money than me has more options than me? That's not Halo. That's Call of Duty with a fucking price tag bolted on to core game play.

Halo 4 is shaping up to be the first Halo game I'm not excited about, ever. Even Wars had me more excited than this.

    Yeah....

Reminds me of that Nexx guy... And how many times he had to save my life... yeah... those were the days...

    ..Wait what
    Believe!
  • I dont like the commentary coming up in the middel of the screen, pretty off putting.

    It's hardly free.

If you can live without the tat, it'll probably be way cheaper to just buy all the DLC on release. Suppose if you're inclined towards LEs anyway then I guess it's a nice bonus.

Paid-for-perks sound shit, but can't help be a bit excited tho.

    Still Halo, innit?

Call of Duty-isation aside, Halo 4 is looking very pretty.

@JRPC: My general point was I don't mind buying the Limited Edition if it means I get the DLC for free as it comes out. What I would mind is the non-LE version of the game having piss all maps, basically meaning that you have to pony up extra cash for the kind of thing that should be included by default.

In short, I want to be buying the LE to get something extra, not to avoid getting a gimped version of the game.

    Yeah, I'm with you.

Actually I was looking at the prices of the Reach DLC packs - in terms of value I think this one compares pretty favourably with other LEs. Actually considering it now.

I really don't like the idea of a few having an early advantage with perks and stuff though. But then, I don't like the idea of perks.

    Sorry, 'specialisations'.

  • Time for me to preorder I think.

Tesco is bound to have a code at some point in the future, but they've failed to get anything to me on day of release so far. Shop.to recommended?
  • Fair play though, it looks bloody lovely.

  • Yeah the shooty bits look grand, but it's hard to shake the worry about unlocks and all that noise.
  • Reminds me more of 3 than Reach, despite the things we're hearing.

    Fuck it, I'm in.

  • I'd be kidding myself if I said I wouldn't get this day one.

Unless something really awful drops between now and then, I'm in, all the way.

    Bagsie Passenger seat....
  • Definitely a day one for me, its clearly going to be more fun than Reach, even if it's not quite the update to H3 some of us were hoping for.
Today is the shadow of tomorrow.
  • How can we possibly say it's going to be more fun than Reach already? The maps could be worse, the kill times just as bad (not slower, surely not slower?), the armour abilities even more gamebreaking, the lack of an actual ranking system just as problematic and the unlockables far dumber. A few seconds of gameplay showing some pretty graphics and a 5sk BR do not provide any guarantees. Will still be getting this day one of course, possibly even the LE :)

  • For goodness sake would you all give it a rest when it comes to the moaning about what it might or might not be? Its the same gripes page after page forum after forum! None of us has any clue as to how good or bad it will be, the only real footage has made it look great yet you still moan! If you describe most games systems and workings they sound awful but in reality can sometimes be the second coming of Christ. How about you simply wait to at least get more info on how these things will be integrated never mind how it will play. So far from what ridiculously little info we've got most appears positive and the negative appears extremely vague at most. It'll be a day one for just about all of you and you know it. Unlocks, DLC and perks are simply part of contemporary game design ,and the only way to escape it is to stop playing games altogether. It's 99% our own faults as we want bigger and we want more and we want more beautiful so as these things get more expensive they look for ways to make more money, and that's completely understandable, and we always pay for it so the model obviously works, so they find more payable options. I know everybody is entitled to their own opinion but god you'd think 343 had come out and said they'd decided chief is a transvestite with mental issues hooked on oestrogen tablets and firing STD ridden condoms at the unmasked space ducks from the future. A little positive thinking wouldn't go amiss.
  • Verecocha, I think all of us have been positive at different points about the game. However, things like unlockables have never been in Halo for a very good reason. They're crap. They're terrible game design and have no place in a Halo FPS game. Just because COD has exploded and vomited it's crappy gameplay features all over the rest of the FPS genre shouldn't mean Halo should get puked on too. The problems we know about so far aren't small and for you to make out like they are is simply wrong. A 5sk BR may look small for example but kill times are so important to Halo.

At the end of the day, we've got precious little info to go on and talking about H4 (be it positive or negative) helps the loooong wait till it's released so cut us some slack.
    GT: Knight640
  • It looks hot, i want 6sk to savour it.
  • There's nothing wrong with talking about it but the same things over and over across multiple forums seems pointless. We've no idea as to how they'll integrate unlocks etc, how they may have seperate lists for game types using and not using unlocks/equipment/abilities. The only valid worry I've seen may be the 5 sk BR but the BR kill times in 3 were slower than two just because people couldn't deal with a weapon with a quick 4 shot perfectly accurate hit scan weapon, fair enough it encouraged competition as with the H3 BR you really had to lead your shots better, but everyone got used to it. IF it is a 5 SK then it'll slow things down a little but perhaps open up other gameplay avenues.
My main gripes are things like it'll be better than reach, it's not what I hoped for, not the update we all wanted. When it COULD be the best thing ever. All these things may turn out awful but they may open up so many more alternatives. It may turn out to be horrendous but with so little info the same things are being said over and over. I'd rather actual discussion on what Frank has said about the new ranking system that won't be the return of H3's 1-50. About the enemies possibly revealed on the figures packaging released last week, on the extended MP video from Walmart. Just seems like everybody continues bringing up the things we don't know much about hat sound admittedly like they could damage the simple halo gameplay.
  • I think it's a case of once bitten...
I can fully understand pessimism given what happened with Reach.
  • Verecocha wrote:

soz cos thats what i said just up there :(

but ya know this is the halols forum and we do like to put ourselves through the wringer everytime a new one comes out :)   plus what i said was my summation of hearing all the info they've put out so far, and ya know, none of us have ever been wrong about anything :P :P
