Craig, Kenny and Liz each gave excellent service, it was clear that they were under expert management. As I was racing out on my new scooter, I saw a tall fellow appear, with magnificent facial hair, who exuded authority. I immediately went back and bought something, anything from him. I confess I can't quite remember his name, such was the level I was starstruck. Gavin perhaps.

    Aye, something like that.

I'm recruiting now, as previously mentioned, if at all possible I'll hire someone called gav, just for funsies. Kenny, Scott, Craig and gav are me and my brothers names, it'd confuse the life out of auld Mary.

    Is Mary the area manager?

Should we not stagger any positive reviews tho m8, otherwise the gig'll be up?

I honestly think the gaffer just wants the average up a bit. Because we're so new and there's so few, 1 negative review skews the score.

Done mate, Elizabeth was a gem.
  • At this Unreal Academy thing.
    Got free socks.
Is this what it is to be the 1%?
  • Nah mate, the 1% don’t wear socks, socks wear them.
    iosGameCentre:T3hDaddy;
    XBL: MistaTeaTime
  • The 1% wear those weird ankle socks to look like they’re not wearing socks when actually they are wearing socks.

I tried them, but they kept falling down and ending up rumpled around my toes. Really uncomfortable.
  • Mate they sell them in Primark.
These are hideous Unreal branded socks!
  • I didn’t expect the Unreal branded socks to be nice.
  • I just got fed moussaka. Living the dream here.
Event is alright as well I suppose.
  • Are socks the only swag? Not even a code to some Unreal Engine game that makes use of some new faff?
  • Rucksack
    Socks
    Pen
    Rather nice embossed notebook
    Pin badge

Not bad really. I'll ebay the socks and pin, some twat will want it.
They have just announced they have merged with Quixel and all their Megascans library is free for Unreal users. That is a pretty epic (pun haha) move.
Give Megascans a google, assets are being used in AAA games (Tomb Raider etc) and massive movies (Lion King etc).

I just had an interview for a product role at work. I think it went well?
  • Hmm, one of the few very good jobs in my (relatively narrow) field that would be a natural step up from my level has just come up. Feels inevitable that I should chuck in an application, but I'm suddenly having a crisis of confidence. It would be the first thing I've applied for in about five years, and I'm plagued by worries that I will be caught short by the leap in terms of responsibilities involved. I should probably give my head a wobble, stop thinking so far ahead, and just set myself the goal of getting an application done.

Now how the hell do you write one of those again?

Sit down with the job description and person specification and answer all the required points with examples from your own experience.

And yes, I’m sure you’d do great. Good luck.
  • Er also I too hope it went very well

This is a thread I feel I have some levels of entitlement from, but I'm fucking knackered and really struggling.

So I know I have a decent job. It pays regularly and it's fairly well inured. That being said, the pressures of the past 3 weeks have really taken their toll on me; not in terms of pupil disclosure etc but more on workload.

So please forgive me if I rant, but I just need to do it.

This year our Higher Media teacher got a job elsewhere and moved. That left two classes without a specialist teacher. Our results last year were.... Underwhelming, so I was asked to teach 3 hours of each class. Fine.

Since then I've had to attend an understanding standards even on a Saturday in Glasgow two weeks ago, and had to return marking the next day after assessment to ensure pupils were ready for the prelim (next week).
In addition to that, last weekend we had our Senior Management team residential and were away on Friday and Saturday doing more work. So that was now two six day weeks in a row.

On top of that we have had "settling in meetings" which our head has brought in in addition to parents night. A chance to meet with the new pupils parents and discuss any initial wobbles. They are very useful but also time consuming. Last week and last night, I had solid meetings from 4:10 to 7:50pm.

I'm absolutely burnt out and need a break. Any advice for something to do this weekend is greatly appreciated. At the moment, it's stare at the sky and cry.
  • I dont know the ins and outs of the education sector but it sounds like some priorities need to be made while you are down a staff member.
Maybe I am wrong but was it really necessary to go on a residential when under so much other workload?

Not sure on exact recommendations. Maybe take Flora somewhere nice. Have your parents moved yet? Could help them out with their new place if so. Family time is always good when down.
  • When I’ve been running around like a blue-arsed fly at work, the best thing for me to do when I get a clear weekend is sweet fuck all. Just batten down the hatches and stay in. Cook. Watch TV. Sleep in. Don’t even socialise. Read a book or something.

That works for me. Dunno about you.

Yeah I think you've hit on it. There had been a few debates as to the need for a residential although I do have to say they're structured in a way that tend to be positive for staff. My parents moved into their "holiday home" two weeks ago (it's better than my own home) and they move to their final spot next weekend. I can't really get on them at this time as dad especially is really stressed.

I've cooked tonight. It feels great. I think I need to structure some Martin time. This weekend may have a block where I just say I'm gaming. Good idea.

    Thank you, all.
  • Cooking really is great.
Enough focus required to let everything else go but at the same time not overly stressful.

I'm half an hour away on the DLR it seems, somewhere equidistant like Greenwich would be top. DLR cru for life.

It’s not too far off a Franco Manca style pizza, but with a better variety of toppings.
  • I only ever get the same one at FM tbf, olives and anchovies. I get the anchovy option at every pizza place. FM dough is what seals it for me.
