The bladerunner hover car is a little too bladerunner. I mean there's plenty you can do with that cyberpunk aesthetic, seems a shame to re-hash close approximations of other peoples visions.

It does look way too obvious, there's nothing out of the ordinary in the trailer at all and the name looks like they've given up before they started. Witcher 2 was great, so they'll get some leeway from me, although I worry that reasonably rich source material carried that.

Since Cyberpunk is based on a pen and paper RPG from the late 80s, with plenty of source material that includes some great artwork, I'd say CDPR has plenty to work with. -

Do you mean the genre or this game specifically? You couldn't attribute Cyberpunk as a genre entirely to one specific source. -
The games were called 'Cyberpunk'
It's what the Card Game Netrunner by the guy who designed Magic: The Gathering based its material on. -

Yes they aren't making their own thing, they're basing it on a source that was all about 'style over substance' and has a wealth of written and drawn material to work from.
Basically if there is a hacking bit that plays like Netrunner I will be AMAZE -
There's something about the design on that 80s game that i prefer to the game footage design. It could be that its just the lurid cartoony style which maybe you couldn't translate to game. Can't put my finger on it, i think its just the 80s idea of the future compared to our modern idea of the future now, i like that retro future thing they've got going there. Could have been interesting to do a really faithful adaption and have the Cyberspace computer game look kind of 80s in its futurism. Bit paradoxical but could have worked well.

Send messageI like anything in that time period, and I'd certainly trust CDPR more than most to come up with a fully realised world. Something like Deus Ex HR but less corridory (Sleeping Dogs: 2112) would be great.
If they say "here's our vision of a cyberpunk future" that doesn't take cues from Bladerunner/Minority Report et al. then it wouldn't be cyberpunk.
Anyone can rustle up a world and fill it with pretty things, it'll need a decent story to get it up to the next level. -

I'd like at least a certain degree of injection when it comes to original ideas though. Minority Report did as such as it's in my opinion a pretty good film for it. Yeah it's just the initial trailer but nothing struck me as new or inspired. -

Send messageI will say that 'police officer using fancy gun to kill beautiful but deadly fembot whilst hover car hangs round' was an odd choice if you wanted to avoid Bladerunner comparisons.
Maybe they don't want to avoid them. If you love Bladerunner (you're a moron, it's pish) then there's not a great deal of good games in that genre.
Somebody rescue Prey 2, ffs. -
I don't mind Bladerunner for all its flaws. Its a visual treat. If that makes be a moron so be it.
