I'll be in charge. Oh Yeah! They're such great kids that it'll kinda take care of itself, but still, looking forward to the test.
Can't even describe how much I'm enjoying it. Instant lift to my spirits every time I'm on the court. And now I've been doing it a year, the difference in the respect you get from the kids is so noticeable. You can't just come in and try and tell 'em stuff as a fly by night. You have to be there week in, week out. Super chuffed that they're calling me coach now, and also loving the guys from my u14 team who are moving up and the guys in u16 already who asking if I can coach 16s as well as 14s.
So best.
Hello All,
As some of you may know - all 2 of you who read my north american sports blog/thread - I have been volunteering for Helping Hoops for the past year or so. helpinghoops.com.au
It's an amazing organisation that runs free weekly basketball programs for disabled and disadvantaged kids. Heck, just read the spiel on the web site, or maybe just watch me talking about it here:
(With thanks to Andrew from the Waverley Falcons)
The HH youtube channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/helpinghoops
And here's me giving the spiel again with some action shots.
(The Highlight may be Wally's Bicep.)
Anyhoo, I've been coaching the kids out at Braybrook, which has led to more coaching and all manner of awesome stuff and I love it.
We have our annual 24 hour shootout coming up (29-30 of June). This is our main fundraising event of the year. Think of it like the 40 hour famine, but a little shorter, and more fun. The aim is to have a large group of people shooting free throws for 24 hours straight. Well, not at once, but, you know, in turns, like 15 minute blocks.
So, I'll be shooting for 15 minutes, you lot give me all your money through this awesome simple website . And Helping Hoops' secret plans for world domination and/or improving the lives of a bunch of freakin awesome young people grows and continues.
Heck, if you don't want to give us money, you can register yourself and get other people to sponsor you! ZOMG.
@skerrett and any other melbourne based badgers.
Pretty please, with sugar on top.
Give that they may grow (to at least 6' 10).
Cheers.
