Mmmm. Now, this has my attention.

Only read a few bits and bobs but it seems that even the platform/s is/are yet to be confirmed. If it delivers half of what the trailer seems to offer then it'll be right up my street.

It was said before, but the thing about procedural generation is creating an enjoyable game around it.
Procedural generation could break what you're trying to achieve.
Will be interesting.

Agree on this, it looks lovely, but totally random and game balance are surely the opposite of each other.

Looks great and I hope they can balance the gameplay.

Aye, procedural generation is one of those really great sounding ideas that's a real bugger to get right - mostly due to getting enough variety in source/generated meshes, so that it feels different and unique, rather than reskinned/different-coloured trees/sharks/sheep/whatever.
The Introversion guy had done some really interesting work with their procedural city generation, but just couldn't find a compelling game strap on to/around it - so made what must have been a hella tough call to can it and do something else (and Prison Architect so a look ace so it was probably a good call). Pootling round the galaxy, mining, trading and spacewar though - always popular and goddamnit we need an accessible Elite on console.

Sand snakes as well, fucking awesome!

I like what he said about the art style being influenced by classic scifi book covers. They've nailed that look.

I guess cos there was a few on PC, but they never sold very well, so publishers just didn't see any money in it.

I had a real time space exploration itch to scratch following FTL, so I had a dabble with X3. Turns out games like that aren't for the casual dabbler. Let's hope they can set the entry bar low enough so that everyone can enjoy it but they keep the massive depth of the likes of Elite and X3 intact.

I get procedural generation of worlds, but how is that going to work if everyone is playing in the same universe? If the first ten players each head off in a different direction, will the eleventh player have to load all that stuff in when they start the game? The dev talks about a sky filled with stars that you can visit as you wish, but how do they handle storing all those stars in terms of memory?

If it's procedural, then I guess they don't. Each time you visit it will be different but based upon parameters for that type of world. I.e. The sky is green and the grass is red.
They could have fairly strict world building guidelines so it's not completely 'erm whut?' When you revisit somewhere. Plus if you have a major landmark like a port people will visit regularly then you have it's surrounding area saved as a constant.
It might not be too jarring to see slightly different terrain on a revisit because you will presumably be travelling to so many worlds that remembering them all will be inpractical.

Feel like this is going to get old fast, which is to say all will collapse into the combat game when interactively empty if pretty planets lose their charm.

Yup. I'm worried that all the stuff to do will be out in space and the impressive and pretty planet environments will go unvisited because there's not much reason to.
