Righto guys and girls, just built a very long list, and made it a collaborative one. Hopefully this link should open Spotify and if there are any glaring omissions feel free to add them. Anything that you think shouldn't be there talk about it in here. We can hopefully whittle this to a top ten or twenty

So just add to the playlist, easy

Bloody frustrating though, that's whyvi always drop big posts onto the clipboard just in case, forum is a touch unreliable like that

Edit: Hahaha, was wondering why the hell the Manics were in my ears. How is that Spoon album? People said good things but it slipped by me

  • I added a bunch of stuff instead, in no order, of varying quality.
  • This isn't a lot of use if you don't have spotify.
Come with g if you want to live...
  • I'll copy 'em all out too, don't worry grandad.

Spotify also fucks with the dates, which is frustrating for early year albums that absolutely came out in 2014.

  • Nice one 2bob.
Come with g if you want to live...
  • Shellac - Dude Incredible
  • Is already there Kim

Checking other sources, even at 70+ albums there list is pretty remiss. So many bases it isn't covering. I have literally just slapped everything I've listened to more than 3 or 4 times on there. I could refine it, but that'd take effort.

@Cocko - new Spoon album is good. Patchy as ever, I don't think I've ever truly loved an album, but they always have enough good songs to make me want to listen again, this one has The Rent That I Pay, Do You, and New York Kiss.
  • I can't participate as no Spotify access here...

But some of you might like the new TV on the Radio album, Seeds. It's not the best thing they've ever done (Return to Cookie Mountain holds that honour) but even "pretty good" TVotR is a step above most others.

I might already be on there - had 2 looks but possible I overlooked it.
  • Good shout. I've not stuck it on because I've not listened to it. It's one I keep meaning to get around to, along with a huge stack of others.

Yet here I am listening to that Holy Bible reissue cos I'm buzzing off seeing them play it last night. Barrowlands is a great venue indeed.

And I only bought one album this year (Laibach - Spectre), so that's my album of the year.
  • Welcome to 2014, yup.
  • I am now two full years behind on my LP catchup schedule and it's wretched.
  • Well the Ought album, More Than Any Other Day, is obviously the best album of the year.

Pretty much the only one I'm still listening to anyway.

  • It's just so easy to give no shits about music now. It's not like it's culturally vital at all.
  • I've stuck a song from each album I mentioned on here, as a taster.

No quality control, but fuck it, you've all got eyes and fingers.

Can't get a playlist to embed, ah well.
  • Heard bits of that Grouper album, really nice. Reminded me to add that to my Xmas list so ta.
  • Bought a few 2014 releases, top three don't seem to be in the list.

La Roux - Trouble in Paradise
    Foxes - Glorious
James Vincent McMorrow - Post Tropical
    alt-J - This Is Yours
    Metronomy - Love Letters

Couldn't pick a favourite, I like a bunch of songs from each with not one album elevating itself above another.
    GT: WEBBIN5 - A life in formats: Sinclair ZX81>Amstrad CPC 6128>Amiga 500>Sega Megadrive>PC>PlayStation 2>Xbox>DS Lite>Xbox 360>Xbox One>Xbox One X>Xbox Series X>Oculus Quest 2

Hardly listened to anything this year. How times have changed.
  • I don't think I know any of those songs in the first couple of postys.. wtf?
He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG

Ugh, we're gonna have to start some whittling soon.

I haven't heard the Mogwai one but Rave Tapes is one letter away from Rape Tapes, so it has to go.
"ERE's like Mr. Muscle, he loves the things he hates"
  • I'd agree with a fair few on the list already, and would add:

Sun Kil Moon - Benji  Not exactly a party album.  Songs about the small details of life and death, and why they matter after all.
Papernut Cambridge - There's No Underground:  Collaborative Psych-pop album, originally released on 3 7inches and thus each song is pleasingly short and to the point.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Give the People What They Want: Old school soul record- most of the coverage seems to have focussed on Jones's cancer, but it's a fine record in its own right.
The Ministry of Wolves - Music from Republik Der Wolfe:  The music for the stage show of Anne Sexton's poems of Grimm's Tales.  Features Mick Harvey, Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto.  Probably not for everybody...
Liz Green - Haul Away!  Not as good as her last album even, but it got played a lot in my household, so it makes the list!
  • But...I won. Meatbodies, have you not ears? *Harrumph*
