That Ouya thing looks interesting, I read about it before (briefly). Like an android home console where the console is also the dev kit and all the games are user generated or summat. If it can live up to that concept then I'm in, just for the creation side of things.

They get a huge amount of traffic so $1 million from ads doesn't seem high to me. I don't really see a problem, if people don't donate then nothing is lost, is people donate then they do away with ads. I don't see the controversy at all.

Just read the full Ouya kickstarter (didn't have time earlier). I'm actually really excited about this. Starting game programming degree in September, wanted to go indie route into industry but not a massive fan of mobile or PC gaming. I always wanted a dedicated console that you could easily develop for. I'm starting to daydream a bit...

Not at all, but if it's Kickstarter, it's a simple opt in / opt out service. It's possibly even less intrusive than ads - people who care enough to frequent the site regularly will donate - with a site as large as PA it'll easily hit its target, then the rest of the gang who don't care as much will get an ad free site for nowt.

So, you won't see the dark ad-driven media funding at all.

Printing 3D models of game characters

3D printers aren't really going to be anything new to anyone here but the idea of printing models contained on the game disc might.

Long and short of it, awesome technology meets great idea ruined by lawyers. Yay.

The article does seem to imply that someone at home will be able to print out a fully flexible character with joints n all based on the in-game character model. Which is obviously not true.

I don't think its that fanciful to imagine these 3D printers becoming something like the replicators in Star trek TNG and being reasonably widespread in people's homes in the next 20-30 years. Original printers went from crazy future tech to household utility in the same sort of timeframe.Â

These guys are probably hoping for a quicker time than that though.Â

It'd be awesome if you were 8. I can't see too many 'game n print' applications for the grown adult / man child. Maybe a racer where you can mod your car and print it as an RC.

Or some kind of Ivy Valentine sex doll.Â

Sorry didn't mean that they wouldn't be in homes, more that a character model works differently to an action figure.

Yeah I can see these being a future tool that everyone will have. There are loads of practical applications beyond toys too. The food printing is especially interesting.
