A thread for those wonky little titles that hopefully don't make us spunk a lot of wallet cash.
I've heard great things about Tribes Ascend, so I'm going for it now. Apparently Blacklight is also great.Â

Tribes is fun as mounting a machinegun on a space hopper.
It actually plays like that. -
For better or worse I might be sold. Moose was banging on about crusade kings or something the other day. I found a video. Its got no documentation and it's pretty open ended. I'm still learning how to hit people. The fact it remains fun to play even though hitting someone is like chucking a frisbee at a fly travelling 250kph is pretty special. I have also learned to just deal with losing, the enemy Pathfinders WILL nick your flag and you WILL lose. Sitting back as a Juggernaut and racking up kills is sweet.
I am starting to get handy with the Fusion Mortar, I managed to knock out a Flag Carrier and Escort whist skiing... they were behind a hill and I guestimated the trajectory and BLA-BLOW they is dead.
Any Spinfusor seems utter luck though, learning the speed and how to hit someone with it is a pain, I usually try and predict their landing spot and aim there instead of going for a Blue Plate Special (but I have managed one of those, YES).

It isn't free. As soon as it is in a Steam Sale it will get bought though, sounds brilliant.

If you're liking Jugg and fancy a change of pace try going after the enemy generator. Your health helps you both in getting there and surviving in the tight corridors. Plus the mortar takes them down in seconds flat.
Aiming in Tribes has quite a bit of nuance to it. This video might help a bit as many people don't realise shots take on your own momentum when you fire.

That helps a little, but at 200kph I doubt I'll remember that. His mortar shot was very similar to mine but it appeared he made his via cold knowledge whereas mine was intent and LUCK.

I eat a bowl of four leafed clovers with rabbit foot dressing before each Tribes session. Thanks to the paleo thread I have learnt diet is everything.

Got a double kill on Tribes today, slowly getting better.Â
Then spent an entire game unable to hit a barn door. LUSH. -
Got a multi kill. Jesus christ, this game really is great. So much to learn but then getting a kill by landing a mortar dead on a guy who is skiing at ridiculous speeds as you soar over a hill is great. Really have to think your trajectories through before committing. Gonna drop some dollar on it so I can get the Spinfusor with the soldier, I do love playing a Juggernaut though, that mortar is amazing. Skiing along with the flag dropping shells behind you so they land on them is priceless.Â

Is it basically Halo with jetpacks or something?
How do the developers make any money? IAPs, presumably, but are they needed or can you get along fine without?
Will have a play with this tomorrow, unless am sucked back into Portal 2 world. -
IAPs, yeo. It is much quicker than any FPS you've played and weapons are heavily affected by motion so require compensation for speed and player movement.
You can get along without buying stuff as it is hard to get a kill so all extra equipment does his give you class flexibility quicker.
I topped leaderboards tonight without any unlocks. -

Have you given pathfinder and flag grabbing a go yet? My first flag chasing escapade is what got me hooked.

Nope, first attempt involved hitting the wall behind the flag at 200kph. Second attempt faired slightly better but I lost momentum. Had better luck laying as 'the graceful shed' which is skiing down hills as a Jugger.
Got some great advice from a video too, decreased mousespeed to 20, inreased FOV to 120 and enabled small weapons. I can now see EVERYTHING.
Fancy playing this or TF2 tonight? Starting to fall in love with PC FPS controls. -

Apparently Steam can handle multiple people on voice at once if you invite them into the same chat window. I run Tribes through the steam overlay for that purpose.
Though I have always ached for a need to use VNH then VGS. -
I had the Beta of Tribes, now I try to install the full game it refuses to let me.
