Not a bad idea, might do that over the weekend and add to the OP.

What would be best? Consoles people have owned over time or just the ones they've kept?

Was pretty much an Xbox fanboy in the Xbox/PS2 days. Purely because of Halo. There was nothing on PS2 that came anywhere near to being as good as that game, imo. But although I bought a PS3, again I rarely bought any games for it. Functioned more as a blu-ray player.

It turns out I've had fewer than I thought (I think they're in correct order of purchase):

    ZX Spectrum
    Commodore 16 Plus/4
    NES
    Master System
    Mega Drive
    Mega-CD
    SNES
    32X
    Amiga 500 Plus
    PlayStation
    PC

    Nintendo 64
    PlayStation 2
    Xbox

    GameCube
    PlayStation 3
    Xbox 360

    PlayStation 4

    Access to:

    Game Boy
    Game Gear

    464 CPC
    Lynx
    Saturn
    Wii

The PlayStation's the only console I've bought twice. I sold my launch model to buy my first PC in '96, and bought another one later that year second-hand. I was glad when PS1 piracy took off soon after, because I was putting what little I earned into running one of these:

    Yammy.jpg

I was saving up for and dreaming of a Mito 125, but I wasn't getting very far with money, so I bought a Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye in the end.

Yeah, I was very much a fanboy, with capital letters.  And the pressie was perfect :D

The Wii U has been the most disappointing console I've ever bought I think though, even SM3DW has seriously unimpressed me which is weird as I adore Galaxy and SMW etc etc sooo much.

That's a shame, 3DW is the one that might have tipped me over the edge of a purchase, but with a baby on the way I can't really justify it. But if a new Zelda comes out I may not be able to keep things that way, although I'm still working through Skyward.

I don't really remember a great deal of what I played on it, to be honest.  Snake and a Centipede game seem to ring bells, but I really cut my gaming teeth on the Commodore 64.  So many good memories from playing on that.

    Impossible Mission surely?

It's the only cart I remember out of the one I had.

Wacky Waiters was a good craic too.

Never played that, but I do remember Pacman (which I thought was great at the time), Pole Position, Frogger, Combat and Kaboom!

yeah - even type-ins were rare.

Ocean did a decent port of Hunchback that I played a lot of, and there was a good shmup called The Ultra. Can't remember much else though - I did a fair bit of coding on it - writing simple games in BASIC like Yahtzee and Video Poker.

The keyboard was far better and the hires mode didn't suffer from attribute clash the way the Spectrum did - pity it never caught on. Apparantly there was a fire at the factory and all stock was lost in the run up to Christmas and they missed that critical sales window and it never recovered.

It did rather well in France for some reason....the firmware iwas compatible with PRESTEL and the French equivalent so maybe that was one reason. The follow up was called the Atmos and it had a gorgeous "proper" keyboard and a revised version of the ROM.
