Well it turns out a Vic and Bob movie is my most anticipated movie of the next year.

    THE GLOVE
Vic and Bob are childhood friends who own a junk shop together where they both work and live. Profits are down and with their futures in jeopardy, they approach their obnoxious landlord to explain their ‘rent’ problems. Rather than helping them, the unsavoury character gives them a choice: eviction, or locate for him a rare and unusual item… Michael Jackson’s training glove.

  • There’s a new Paul Thomas Anderson film! It feels like it mixes the woozy Inherent Vice with freaks and geeks

Prisoners of the Ghostland looks completely mental even from the trailer.  Looking forward to yet more ‘Fulll Nic Cage’.

    And what a trailer!
  • It's absolutely more mental than the trailer. Like, full on arthouse, wtf, mentalness.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Wow, nabbed a Chinese movie called white snake. Animated psuedo kids movie. Stunning visuals, but wow, story and some of the character design sure ain't Disney.

Was watching it with Ara. She wasn't scared, just weirded out. Might finish it myself tomorrow.

  • Just checked Odeon and there’s plenty seats for Bond tonight so fuck it I’m off to watch Bond tonight. £15 for imax recliner.

I'm going to Cineworld. It's not looking that busy in my screen but it is on pretty much every screen.
  • I'm booking some trips to BFI Southbank for Japan 2021 screenings.  At least three.  Cure, Pulse, and Harakiri are definites, I think.

    ^ yup!

So it looked like there were loads of available seats for reclineMax Bond, but trying to actually book most of them resulted in a message about social distancing. Still managed to book but it’ll be interesting to see how full the place actually is.

Cineworld Edinburgh was the busiest I have seen it since pre-pandemic last night for Bond, yet our screen was still barely half full so it didn't feel too bad, although I had people sitting quite close to my right and ahead so it wasn't the best experience (the quieter mid-pandemic screenings I've been to have mostly spoiled me for lack of other people being disruptive). It is very well made, but was a bit too on the long/convoluted side for my liking (as have been several of the Daniel Craig Bond films).
  • I really, really enjoyed the new Bond. Craig has been a bit hit and miss during his run (casino and skyfall great, solace and spectre shit) and whilst this has to mop up some of the mess that is the last film, this seems to have much more of a sense of fun in it. The action scenes were all varied and great-especially the ones that went for tension over spectacle and Craig really did well as a more emotionally vulnerable bond.

It was also probably the best mix of Craig’s bond personal universe super serious stuff and classic bond film structure and silliness.

  • I think Craig has been fine. It’s the movies themselves that have let bond down.

Oh I do agree, just looked back and realised my phrasing wasn’t great. I really like Craig and it has been the overall film that sucks-not him!

  • Yo I watched the James Bond and I have spoilers!

Firstly I really liked it. It's funnier in surprising ways than other Bonds. It's also more poignant and sexually balanced than any other Bond before (there's not so much of the misogynist streak that soured the last two for me).

It also felt like an end of an era bond in the way Die another Day was - a lot of call backs and such like to the older bond films - in particular I hope we never see the DB5 again and I'm glad it got a soft retirement and replaced as "the car" by the sexier one from The Living Daylights. It bothers me to see the DB5 being used as a car people like to sit in - it looked cramped even with thin people like Craig and Seydoux.

The film looked great (I think my screening was a little shit - but you could tell the pictures should have been good) certainly the choice of angles and colorations felt really vibrant and in your face, it is arguable it's a little OTT though and a few motifs bash you over the head with their significance.

Overall I think it might be the best Bond since Casino Royale but that's probably not saying that much. It wins out on action, character (for the most part), nostalgia and looking good but is maybe let down in a few areas such as plot.
    Spoiler:

    Overall: 5/6 stars.

The Many Saints of Newark - quite enjoyed it although nothing much happened really. Some good characters but Tony isn't really one of them.
