I'd often wondered why esports hadn't tried the geographic based teams. Especially in this country. I always wanted to try setting up an esports league on that basis.

Well, with that in mind, the current practice is somewhat akin to Pro Tennis, with open tournaments and tours. Wouldn't be too bad if it all stayed that way...

It was generally thought of as Fatal1ty when eSports was just starting out, he was dominant across a range of fps games.

yeah - but what if there was an event were all had to play the major genres with some sort of scoring scheme to normalise performances and produce an overall champ. Too nerdish by far I'd reckon though.

A bunch of folks'd always get lucky with any random selection of games. I'm generally good at racing, fighting, and TPSes, so I'd be screwed if I drew football and stratmans.

Probably old news to most, but I only just found out. Apparently KeSPA (South Korea's esports governing body) has discontinued the StarCraft league. At 14 years, it was the longest running pro-gaming championship in the world.

In a statement, KeSPA chairman Jun Byung-hun cites a drop in the number of ProLeague teams and players, difficulty securing sponsorships and match-fixing issues as elements that led to the closing of ProLeague.

End of an era, in terms of earning-a-living-from-being-dead-good-at-games. Hopefully the silver lining will be a reduction in match fixing in other games; you may get a short-term pay out, but you might cost yourself your entire league. Not worth it in the long run.

It probably has more to do with the rise of Overwatch and League than match fixing
