Right. So im sick of listening to the radio in the car. Can anyone recommend any decent audiobooks? (along the lines of sci fi-fantasy etc)
I gather the Stephen Fry read Harry Potters are good?
Yeah. I like the way it hides that until you get near the end. You have to listen to the whole lot, though, to make sense of it. So yeah, superfly, deffo check it. Take it slow, start to finish, for a proper dose of subtextual high-concept science-fiction.
All the partridge stuff is heavily intertextual so whereas I'm sure it's as good a place as any to start, it'd also be like reading the autobiography of a 30 year veteran radio DJ/TV personality that you've never once listened to/seen in your entire life
Yeah, I've never had to break out the sources so much in my entire life; I was highlighting every other sentence, basically. At one point I had to stop and read Uylsses for some light relief.
You did not in fact imagine that, Mike. I don't actually read printed books anymore, they're incompatible with my gadabout lifestyle. I only like clutter if I can wear it, apparently.
Uhh okay, there are decent readings of Stanislaw Lem, Gene Wolfe, Stephen Donaldson, Pratchett of course, the Banks Culture stuff, uhh
