8bit micro era was a blight on gaming as far as I'm concerned. There was no shortage of ideas and talent but the gap between the craftmanship of Atari, Namco etc and the 8bit micro pioneering game developers was chasm-like. Tape loading (and multi-loaders), overly ambitious ideas, shit difficulty curves pulled the whole thing down and almost made me give up gaming.

Only games from that era I'd play now are in my list - JSW, Chuckie Egg and Thrust. Great games built within the limitations of the time and all the better for it.

So... I'm starting my list.  Should I follow Cinty's example and say group similar games from a series (example Final Fantasy VII - IX is what Cinty did, and XII separate), or list separately?  Like for Zelda, as a fanboy, I think each individual entry that I liked is better than every other game out there.  So technically the 6 or 7 or whatever individual games should be in a top 100... what to do, what to do.

I cheated wherever I thought was necessary.  Probably should've sneaked Portal 2 in alongside the original.
