Only the fifth time that a woman has been nominated for Best Director.
  • @reg

Yeah, I was going by buzz.

I haven't seen any of the Best Picture nominees apart from Get Out, which I enjoyed, I don't get to the cinema for much apart from Marvel or Star Wars films these days. There was a time when I'd have seen everything on this list.

I want an entire Radiohead album inspired by the imposter-syndrome and sense of alienation inspired in Jonny Greenwood if he wins.
  • I’m backing Baby Driver for both of the editing awards.
  • I keep meaning to see Call Me By Your Name, seems mad it didn't get a Cinematography nomination as from what i've heard the DP managed to shoot it so that even though much of the filming took place in rainy/post rainy skies, it looks like gorgeous sunlight - on film no less.

It's a beautiful film. I expect BR to pick up on technical awards. I'd be surprised if BD wins, even if it is best, given past Oscar trends

Good way of thinking about it - every year my mum and I swap Oscar picks with our own choices as for what we think should win. Often very different

Right on. Still would've been nice to see it make it a nice round 10 list. Or better yet, replacing Dunkirk entirely.

I have impressively seen none of the best picture noms. I thought I was doing better with films this year too.
  • I’m so behind on movies. Haven’t seen any of those best pic picks. Phantom Thread will deffo get a viewing if only cos I love DDLewis. And Anderson is great director.

Billboards and Call Me... also on top of my (long) list.

Must play fewer games and catch up on past few years.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • I bet plenty of the judging cohort would have got misty eyed at Three Billboards murky tale of redemption but it rubbed me up the wrong way.
