I need to talk about Blasphemous. Have many people here played it? I think it's ridiculously good, feels like a perfect mix of Symphony of the Night, Chakan and Hollow Knight. One of the best £9.99's I've spent this gen (was 50% off last week but I wouldn't dream of complaining at £20). Not for everyone perhaps, but it's most definitely for me - it's got its claws all the way in.

I found it a mess as I said, but I might pick it back up again if you're that happy with it.

I could compile a small list of grievances myself (would like to see B's) but it does so much right on the whole. It's ever so slightly clunky but it feels like a conscious decision rather than the devs fudging anything. The main character isn't supposed to be Nimble McFleetfoot so the platforming hasn't been jarring thus far (even above chasms or spikes) and the hack 'n slash aspect is absolutely spot on imo.

There were extensive patch notes at the front end when I started, so perhaps the game I'm playing is in much better shape than when some of you played it. @wariospeedwagon played it pre-update I believe. Might be worth another look Tempy, it's a real labour of love and I'm hugely taken with it at this stage.

I've been doing some title update/DLC research today and the patch that arrived in August this year is fully integrated into the game I played.  It was described as a 'full remaster' in the video I just watched, to the point where some of the characters I met - probably the game's best in particular - were added for the overhaul.  I touch on some changes in the review above, but it turns out that's not the half of it, plus there's substantial new story/gameplay added to the (free) DLC that's integrated in the NG+ mode for those that have a completed save slot.   

There's a chance that negative experiences with the OG version may have wiped its feet on some, to the point where even the game that exists now might not win them over completely, but I'd urge anyone who even half liked it to take another look.  I'm going in for the DLC now as I'm not ready to stop.

Shattered got a couple of major updates.

Went back, it suggests restarting strongly.

I just used my old save to check. There's been a lot of work. Some complete redesigns of early area, more purdies, additional systems. Reckon I'll wait until release now, but improvements even in a 5 minute check were obvious and great. (parry /fighting improvements were immediately obvious.)

Pushed on a lot further, 6 or 7 bosses down i’d guess, at a bit of a dead end. Still find it a little punitive in the performing sections, but the other stuff is elevating it.

The DLC is contained within the New Game+ mode on this, you have to 'ascend' from your final save to restart the quest with integrated DLC, which strikes me as an odd way to do it.  I've seen a few people laud it as a great way to go about it, but it effectively wipes your save and you only retain unlocked abilities.  I'm on the cusp of going again but I dunno, it's a bit of an undertaking (and of course enemies soak up extra damage in the NG+ mode).  I want to see the extra stuff, it sounds fairly substantial, but I'm not sure I want to play (a tougher version of) the whole thing again for the privilege.

Ooh interesting. Don't think of even heard of it but does sound appealing.

Yeah it's definitely not a run out and buy purchase. I need a few more takes on it before plunging.

I've reviewed it for Wireframe. It won't be published for a while.

I'm not as enthusiastic about it as Donlan, although I did appreciate a lot of its little original ideas - the boss health system, the vigour system, tying character stats to personality traits etc.

I think in the end it's caught between being a Roguelike hard restart type game and a single play through type. It has all these random elements, but fixed level layouts, and once I finished it on my second try I couldn't see a reason to go back.

There's probably a good 10 hours in though before it starts to wear thin.
