Gutted its a timed exclusive but glad they’re remaking it. Should be amazing on the new consoles.
    I thought you had a PS5?
I do, but prefer multiplats on my Xbox. Mainly for the pad. Like my PS’s for the exclusives. Timed exclusives on either just annoys me. Especially at this point if it’s difficult for those without both to get a hold of either.

Timed exclusives just seem a bit salty to me but I get why we have to have them.

But haven’t Sony got to do what they can to encourage sales, especially of western RPGs as Microsoft just bought all the big ones and made them exclusive.

Based on how hard it is to get hold of a PS5, I’m not sure that Sony does need to do much to encourage sales, no.

But yeah, if you’re into WRPGs or FPS games, you’re better off with an Xbox even with this announcement. If you’re into JRPGs or cinematic, 3rd person, action games, you’re better off with a PlayStation. Each manufacturer having its own areas that they specialise in is no bad thing, IMO.
  • Can't you be into like, all the games?. Consoles having 'specialisms' is a ridiculous idea. Sooner or later people are going to lose out on gaming experiences (unless they're a rich bastard who own both machines).

Having said that, when I do get round to getting one of these new machines, it's clear I will have to go down the Xbox route if I want to continue playing my favourite genre i.e. WRPG. Not too bothered about missing out on a remade Kotor but can't help shake the feeling that due to ongoing console specialisms I will miss out on eventual Sony exclusives... which makes me sad inside.

It’s like anything at the moment not just consoles. This is all driven by business. Netflix vs Prime vs Disney, all have their exclusives to get you tied in.

At the moment the cost premium is due to the hardware. When it eventually becomes a platform that is when it probably becomes a choice of spending a bit more rather than a lot more cash.

I mean if Sony ever go the MS route and start to sell PS5’s with some sort of GP competitor at £30 a month that makes for a lot of gaming between the two at £60 a month and far less than we have probably paid in the past. Can’t see it happening this gen, but it kinda feels inevitable that it will go that way.

No exclusives is a nice idea, but it’s just not the way things are. If we are going to have exclusives, surely it’s better to have some separation in the types of games that are exclusive?
  • I can see pros and cons of that. If you like very few types of thing it might be good but the reverse if you like different things.

What WRPGs does Bone have that aren't basically shooty shooty FPSs in disguise?

    Nothing.

Also what FPSs except for Halo, which isn't out yet?

I wondered about Gears but it's not an RPG and it is basically a shooty shooty FPS in disguise

For me Bone is all about free indies on Gamepass, and Forza. But then I'm allergic to shooting unless it's midway through a Naughty Dog pacifist adventure.

The Bethesda acquisition has made the Bone the king of the WRPGS. Starfield and TESVI will see to that.

Considering Kotor was an Xbox exclusive back in the day, this move by Sony to gobble up a WRPG  franchise that is not native to them shows how irked they must still be by that latter M$oft acquisition.

Beth covers FPS as well with Id and Machine Games. Plus for WRPGs, MS have Oblivion, InXile and Fable coming from Playground. I think the only real WRPG studios that Microsoft doesn’t own are CDProjekt and Larian.
  • Starfield definitely is, that's been confirmed.  TES VI  is so far off nobody knows, but it's highly likely.  Microsoft weren't playing around when they bought Bethesda. (And let's remember Morrowind was a Xbox / PC exclusive,  so TES has never been always multi-platform anyway)

Edit @ Yoss   ,christ I had forgotten about all those as well!

Only next gen only game currently out from any Microsoft studio is Flight Sim, the only upcoming cross gen games are Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5 and the Grounded 1.0 release, everything else that MS have announced is next gen only, so Fable, Starfield and Avowed will be next gen only when they release, as will, presumably, whatever InXile have cooking. Slow build up, but things are coming.
