I'd buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel)

  • As per the car thread, and mk's suggestion.

We've all had this discussion; you win the lottery, or come into money some other way.
What do you do?  Well, it depends how much, doesn't it?  How much would you give away?
    Tell us what you'd do if you won £10, £100, £1k, £10k, £100k, £1m, £10m or £100m.

    £10
A bottle of Mountain Dew, a Pot Noodle, a bag of crisps, a Mars bar, and this week's lottery tickets, this weeks footie dues.

    £100
A sound bar for under the telly.

    £1,000
A 21.5" iMac.  Given the extras I'd like, I'd need to spend a few hundred pounds of my own money, but hey ho.

    £10,000
All of the above, and the rest on home improvements.

    £100,000
All of the above, pay off the mortgage, buy a new car.  Maybe a Passat, maybe a Toyota GT86.  A trip to Japan.

    £1,000,000
All of the above, and I'd build a house.

    £10,000,000
Keep £3m.  All of the above, quit work.  Give my folks £3m and my brother £3m, use the remaining £1m to pay off some friends' mortgages and give to charity.

    £100,000,000
Keep £15m.  Buy all of the above, but the house is now five or six bedrooms.  The iMac has become 27" and fully spec'd along the way.  Cars would be a 4x4, an executive saloon and a little two-seater.  £15m each to folks and brother.  £1m-£5m to various friends, family members and charities.
  • It's a bar that simulates a surround sound system from a row of speakers in one unit.
  • That sounds awesome, a good thing to have if your living room is a bit small for a proper surround set up?
  • OP looks like a Kickstarter pledge list.

    £100
    Fantasy Android based games console.
    Gamertag: Mal0wner
    3DS Friend Code: MalO 0645-5742-2145
    Wii U: MalOwner
  • I'm in for this

    £10
    Beer

    £100
    CDs, Beer, Dinner

    £1000
Better beer, whiskey, a good night out to see a DJ (maybe warehouse project and would treat my mates)

    £10,000
    As above.
Fix some more long term stuff on my car like the dif whine that doesn't need need doing but will do one day. Save a chunk and pay off debt.

    £100,000
    As Above
Deposit on a house, a better day to day car than the Ibiza, maybe a 1 series.

    £1mil
As above except buy a house cash. Really spend some money on the house too. Massive holiday with mates. Sort out my family's and a few close friend's debts but they don't have much.
    1980s Porsche 911

    £10 mil
As above but a much better house most likely in London as well as a villa somewhere, probably Miami. Only at this stage would I give up work but I would look at setting up my own company. I would give money to charity as and when I see fit, I wouldn't put a set number aside.
Cars would come into play more, Lambo Diablo in black and an F40 in red to match the Scalextric I had as a kid.

    £100mil
As above again but again better houses and more cars. More money to charity, essentially everything just gets scaled at this point.
  • £10 - If I was playing the lottery i'd probably reinvest it in the lottery
£100 - Reinvest my stake and then take my wife out for a meal
£1k - Fix scratch on car door and get tumbledryer
£10k - Pay off debts and put the rest towards my daughters future/education
£100k - All of the above and use some of the rest to cover my MBA. I'd buy some commission some art, i'd give about 5 grand to the charity i work with but at a district level not at a national or regional level.
£1m - Book an amazing holiday for my family. Re-do the front of the house so that the garage is a better use of space. I'd give 30k to the charity i work with, 10k at national level, 20k at local level. The rest i'd invest or put towards the new business we plan to start.
£10m - All of the above focussing on the new business. Lump sum away for my daughters upbringing. We would probably invest in a flat or house somewhere abroad. I'd donate somewhere between 50-100k to charity but at this point it would be more than one.
£100m - Now we start to get into silly money so all of the above. Then i'd build a 2nd house in the country with a pool and amenities et al. Get a season ticket at wembley and a premiership club in amazing seats. Would more than likely quit my current job and step back away from the business we set up to spend more time with my daughter doing whatever the fuck we want with that kinda money.. Travelling would be high on the agenda and i'd try to see as may countries in the world - in style. Nice new car, probably a lambo from the 80's-90's. I'd get a table tennis coach for myself. Amass a nice retro collection of games/systems/arcade. Set up a graffiti gallery in central london. My donation would be 500k at this point to be for smaller charities. I'd also arrange a massive piss up for the forum for u guysssss. I'd also go to evo every year. Go to lots of events, gigs with my wife and daughter. Use the money to support my parents who are getting on. Buy my sisters houses they want, if they want me to. Similar story for close friends. Provide overall financial security for them.

    Righto -
£10 - A wee mad spree at Fopp. Maybe TWO CDS?!

£100 - A meal for two at a Michelin restaurant (probably The Kitchin)

£1000 - I'd take Mrs Reg and myself over to New York for a quick trip (would likely need more money, but a good start)

£10000 - Where it changes slightly - spend none, and down for a deposit on a house.

    £100,000 - House payment

£1,000,000 - House (good chunk on), pay off sister's mortgage, take parents away on holiday, night out on me for mates, and a nice wee car.

£10 mill - Houses in Edinburgh and America somewhere, holiday house for the parents, £4 million in a savings account at around 4% interest that I would scoop off the top every year to live on (hello £160k salary) that would then become a child's trust fund for when I pop it, retire,  write the novel, money to charity.

£100 mill - 25% To charity, buy houses for all my close friends, take entire entire to Japan for a week, and obviously the biggest game collection in the world - it gets all scaled, as live said.
  • 25% to charity? Reg that's a lot which charity would be the lucky one?

I assumed MK's ÃœberStock would have sorted that out.
  • I've been over this question so many times in my head.

    10- Buy some more food

100- Indian Spirit festival next month

1,000- A painfully beautiful girl has invited me to travel India, Nepal, and Bhutan with her. I could afford it with this

10,000- 3,000 lent/given to my best friend. 3,000 saved for a grand festival tour in 2014. 1,000 on a new computer. 1,000 relocating to Barcelona or somewhere in Italy. 1,000 on India etc. 1,000 saved.

100,000- 70,000 on a small apartment in some European city. 20,000 to family and best friend. 10,000 travelling the world whilst working.

1,000,000- 500,000 on a couple of really nice rooms in some European cities. 300,000 shared between family and best friend. 100,000 shared amongst the rest of my friends. 100,000 travelling the world and writing music for a very long time.

10,000,000- 2,000,000 on dream apartments in a couple of European Cities. 4,000,000 to family and best friend. 1,000,000 shared amongst remaining friends. 1,000,000 starting my own little recording label. 2,000,000 Travelling the world and living in luxury.

100,000,000- 20,000,000 on a series of dream apartments spanning the entire globe. 40,000,000 on family and best friend. 10,000,000 on everyone else. 5,000,000 learning to drive and buying some very nice cars. 5,000,000 on the recording label and travelling the world in super-luxury. 10,000,000 to charity. 10,000,000 generally pissed away on impulse buys
  • I'm aiming to earn up to stage six £1m in the next 5 years. Or be at least over half way there. With my dads passing have had something come in so this is what I spent and then the rest is wish list.

10 - got entry into play area for me and the kids.

100 - paid for a really nice meal in pitlochry.

1000 - paid for a bath to be installed in my house, gives somewhere for my new baby to have bath time.

10000 - gives my wife more time with my son before she has to think about work by an extra year.

100k. Goes towards 4 bedroom house so the kids dont have to share. Take everyone to Disneyland.

1m. Even nicer house. no work for me , or at least at the coalface. Runs revelstock and pays for everyone to meet up. Have time to be a dad. Maybe complete dark souls. nice gifts for the family. Some money for a kids charity.

I'll think about the rest later.

  • £10: I'd hide it in a pair of trousers for that incredible elation when you find £10 you didn't think you had.

£100: Same as most, it'd pay for a babysitter, a lovely meal out with taxis and a few $ spare to waste in one of the casinos, so it'd all go on a night out with my wife.

£1000: Despite the temptation of finally paying off an old overdraft in a British account that's just sitting there unused, I'd probably split it and treat myself to something like the balance of a new iMac, and buy my wife a Stubben saddle for her horse.

£10 000: I would actually pay off the little overdraft, stick £5k in savings and probably blow the other half on a family holiday.  So much travelling I want to do while I'm in the US to see places that are a little bit inaccessible.  It could make our planned January trip to Lake Tahoe a bit more 5 star, and I'd like to go to Alaska and Hawaii while the flights are cheap.

£100 000: Bring/send my parents on a fantastic holiday, and go on one ourselves.  All the rest of it straight into savings so we can buy a bigger house with more land when we get back to the UK, although about £10k for a couple of new horses to keep at it, one for my wife and one for my daughter.  I'd keep our leased car, but would probably buy something fairly ridiculous for my commute to enjoy until coming back to the UK.  I'd pay to complete my Airline Transport Pilot's License.

£1M: As above, plus stick something circa £250k into savings/a fund for the little one's education and future.  The balance would probably buy the sort of house we're looking for straight out, so £650k or so on an equestrian property somewhere in Scotland.  I would give serious consideration to leaving my job and retraining to do something else; probably by being an extremely old medical student and becoming a doctor, although I'd also finish my ATPL studies just in case.  Would buy my wife the ridiculous Range Rover she'd want for towing horses around, and myself something slightly less practical.

£10M: As above but the property would be in the region of £2-3M, probably by buying a going business concern (a training/stud yard, possibly a livery yard on the side) which my wife would run.  I would definitely leave my job and either help run said business or study medicine.  I'd consider £250k on a second hand light twin turboprop aircraft to get around in a much more pleasant and efficient way than driving, although I'd need to win something more than £1M to buy a ridiculous supercar, so I'd have one with a win this big.  We'd end up with 4 cars probably, something to tow, something comfortable for the weekly shop, a little sporty thing, and some ridiculous supercar.  This is also the stage where I'd do a lot for friends and family, obviously, but as I said in the other thread where this came up I wouldn't just write cheques to people.  I'd establish trust funds for all the children in my extended family and all my close friends' kids.  I'd pay off everyone's mortgages.  I'd buy my parents a holiday home in the Canary Islands.

I'd hopefully achieve all that with still a few £M to put into savings and cream off the interest like Reg, although I'd only take about half the interest as the other half by definition has to be rolled back into your capital to keep its net worth the same.  Tbh, with anything of this sort of level I'd do exactly what a very professional financial advisor told me to with the remaining amount.

£100M: The equestrian business would be one of the biggest in the country, bought for around £8-15M.  I'd still do everything above, although I might find I have too much to do to retrain.  I'd spend £10M on a share in an F1 team so I can follow them around during the season; not enough to be important on the team but enough to be guaranteed paddock and garage access everywhere.

Would still buy my own aircraft but it'd be new rather than second hand, and it'd still be a light twin as that's ideal for getting around Europe.  For going further afield I'd set myself up with a NetJets account rather than buying something larger as I don't want to actually fly myself transatlantic.

I have a few aviation-related business ideas that I might consider trying to start up with this level of capital too, but in general I think partly running a large equestrian business and having an F1 team to follow every year would probably cover off most of my spare time.

I'd likely split it between RNID, Shelter and a dog charity because I love the fuckers.
  • 10 - Another ticket, beer in bottles.

100 - Shopping spree - bottle of Whisky, DVD's or a pair of shoes.

1000 - New TV or a gaming PC.

10000 - New kitchen or bathroom.

100000 - Sell the flat, buy a house.

1M - Keep the flat, buy a house in the country.

10M - Sell up, buy a house in another country, maybe buy a pub.

100M - House abroad, throw some at my team. I'd dabble in job creation, some of which might involve brewing or distilling.

  • I'm not going to think about it too much but for the last 2 I'd buy a sizeable yacht and tour the globe.

With the big one I'd hope to restore some Scottish Heritage sites.  Maybe get Linlithgow Palace back into prime condition.  No idea how much something like that would cost mind you.

I grew up there.  Small world etc.
