Right, just bought Snow Leopard, so I now at least have the mid specs for iOS deployment.  Is it legit to get an app on the app store withtout the full license though (i only have the non-pro iPhone license)?  Might need to do some more digging.

Still, fame and fortune here we come!

And nice to see my name in print in the mag ;p slight upturn in people playing the thing online - some madman played registered 28 different scores across two days; need to get him the iphone version methinks ;p
  • I once wrote a branching text adventure for CSYS Maths. It was based on Deep Purple's House Of The Blue Light album cover. It was a bit rubbish but it did feature stabbing Michael Jackson in a coffin.

Cock, wrong guffing version of Mac OS.  Too many effing felines.  So struggling to get an XCode version that works with it and Unity and my iPhone.  Grr.  So close, and yet so far.
  • with an ios unity license you're fine to go on the store, the pro license just lets you use the unity pro features with ios,so you should be fine

not sure why snow leopard isnt enough for you to play ball with unity and xcode
  • @acemuzzy - what xcode version are you after and for which OS X feline? I have a couple of xcode dmgs for previous versions that Apple have probably taken down from the website now.

Snow Leopard - 10.6.3 I think.  First downloaded 4.3 or whatever recent, which needed Mountain Lion, then 3.2.6 I think, which is OK with Snow Leopard, but you need 10.6.6.

... by which point, in combination with the Steam sale (*), my monthly allowance was basically gone, so I gave up.  Apparently Lion (not to be confused with Mountain Lion, obviously) is out later this month - so given it's not too expensive, I thought I'd actually wait for that and at least be up to date.  Cheers though!

One other question - anyway know about tax n shizzle.  Can I claim these as 'business expenses' and deduct it from my income tax??  Wholly, exclusively and necessarily or something?  Sounds like I tick the boxes, but don't want to get in trouble from the tax man!!
  • Hi, Both Cath and beserker dont wont on my Gingerbread phone. but both do work just fine on my HP Touchpad running ICS. Nice efforts! The only thing with cath is i really have to tilt the tablet to get the guy running.

Here is a WIP of my first game. KidsMonsterMatch
Its all hand coded using opengles. Its pretty code complete but the game is full of placeholder graphics, main menu not finished etc. Ive disabled some features in this app like the music and please rate this app stuff.
It should work from Eclair up.
Any feedback/issues would be very welcome!

Just as a side note i started work on a different game, kind of a stunt platformer but stopped to do this instead as a toe dip in the water. Christ the amount of work even this simple game took. Even to the point of having to learn illustrator to for the graphics. But once this is out im going back to the "proper" game im writing.

  • good luck superfly, i'll try to download and test it tonight.  i have very little idea what the names of android versions relate to, but i have a dell streak that is version 2.3 i think...also the missus is getting a nexus 7 for her birthday next week, i'm sure i'll be able to borrow that then!

also, 'stunt platformer' sounds amazing from the name alone.

  • hmm, that's odd cos berserker works on that for me...then again my android development skill basically consist of making the game in unity for pc then clicking 'build for android' so there's plenty of room for something to have gone wrong in there! :)

  • superfly, i got as far as downloading the game, but didn't get round to testing it last night, sorry.  i'll try to over the weekend though.

the reason i got distracted is that for the last few nights i've been working on a game that i've been developing for quite a while now, just in very short and infrequent bursts (ie, this week is the first time i've touched it since february!).  Anyway, i think i've tidied up all the main issues i was hoping to, so I'm 'relaunching' it RIGHT NOW, with a new webpage to boot!

The Beautiful Game: The Game is a multiplayer 'world cup singles' footy game for PC.  2 people can play locally, and online up to 8 players in a game (with 2 from the same machine possible). It really needs a joypad to get the best from it, but I have added keyboard controls for those without a pad, even though it really limits the movement.  There are some screenshots and a link to a video on the webpage...they're a bit old (especially the video) so a lot has changed 'under the hood', and the play area and menus look different now, but they're still very representative of the game's style and how it plays.

If anyone is interested enough to check it out, that would be great...and even better, if you want to play online, I'll be hosting a session tonight from 9:30pm and trying to bring a couple of mates along to add a few bodies.

  • SWEET!
I've done it in XNA*, so it might ask you to download the framework from microsoft during the install if you don't already have it.
most of them graphics i did by hand in paint, oh yes! :)  (except for the picture on the menu screen obviously)

*with the addition of Lidgren and Nuclex frameworks for networking and 'joypads other than xbox360' respectively...

heh, looks fun.  i'll also try to take it for a spin.  May even be around (and drunk) at 9.30 ish - will it be obvious that there's a game hosted?

Wish I had more time for some home coding.  Babies and work are not conducive to this.  Fingers crossed for my move into the industry though!
  • good stuff Ace.
it should be obvious as long as it's working! ;)
basically once you've set your player name and type, click 'search servers', it should show any active games and there's only likely to be mine in there.  then just select it and click join game.

or you can just click 'quick start' which will join the first game it finds, but if there aren't any about it will ask you if you want to host your own - it would be handy if you tried that too as it would test if the upnp stuff works (it doesn't with my router).

and if you just want to practice or mess about you can 'play offline'

Shabby/Skerret Any news on the shmup

It's getting much closer to getting started now. I wasn't able to do any work whilst cycling but it did give me plenty of time to think of how I want to do things and ideas for the project in general. So I know what I want to do, now it's just a matter of doing it. I'm relocating to the UK on Thursday and hopefully if I get a job and get settled I will then start production. Otherwise I will be deporting myself back to Australia where I will start production. Either way, you win!

We'll be calling on this forum to give us a hand during development too as there is a strong user-created content focus as well as making sure to tailor it to the SHMUP fans by giving you guys what you want. I can't wait.
  • cool.

    looking forward to it.
