Yakuza - it's like Shenmue, but actually fun to play

So I just remembered Yakuza 0 is out in two weeks time - then I noticed we have no Yakuza thread - surely I can't be the only person who plays these? Utter ludicrous bobbins around with the series. I came in at 3 and by the time I had a quest to get a red ball for a cat I realised what insanity lurked.
4 I completed, streaming, for a 24 games marathon. Again, the insane rooftop finale and my own tiredness made it seem completely ludicrous.
Dead Souls I found pretty uninspired - simply a Zombie sheen on it all.
But 5. 5, man. Doing Samba De Amigo rhythm games, driving people around for taxi missions (which always took a turn for the surreal) and having arcade perfect replicas of Virtua Fighter 2 and Taiko Drum Master? Completely wild.
0 is out on the 24th, and is set in the 80s - so you can go to the arcade and play Super Hang On if that takes your fancy.
Anyone else into this wonderful series? -

I've never played one and I'm not sure why, now that I've typed it that seems quite rude of me as a Sega type. Is Super Hang On the only arcade game in this one?

I've played 4 and 5 and enjoyed them both, so zero has been on my list for a while. -

Open world, but not a large world - a very dense one, however. They also have semi random fights which are like 3D streets of rage, but these have little cutscenes to introduce them, they're not organic like Sleeping Dogs. Imagine a Japanese designer looked at GTA and then said "I'll have some of that" and then brought the best and worst of Japanese game design to it. -
I played the first one that came out Iver here on PS2, didn't like it unfortunately. Felt very clunky from what I remember.オレノナハ エラー ダ

Yeah, I should have also addressed Ram's point with that. They are unwieldy beasts, to be sure, but the freewheeling combat makes up for it (for me) and the ability to do mad wrestling moves in the middle of
IkebukuroKamuroucho is a sight.
Mind you, I'd say Rockstar never got the clunk out either. -

Finished the first game on PS2 (great voice cast, btw) and loved it. Yakuza 2 is still sealed as I never got round to it.
Bought Yakuza 4 from PSN during 2015's Black Friday Sale and was thoroughly enjoying it until real life and a shit 2016 got in the way and I stopped playing.

I hit series fatigue after the first two, but they're excellent games in fits and starts. -

And I really like the fighting in this series. Clunk be damned, the hits feel physical and it nails the sensation of having a proper brawl. One of the very few games to make me wince.

To be fair, I do find GTA too clunky for me to really get into, just find Yakuza even more so.
