Christmas Cake/Pudding/Ham bake/steam/roast-a-long 2023 edition

For reasons unknown I have decided to make a traditional Christmas pudding. Probably some sort of wimpish mid-life crisis.
I have zero baking skills and experience so this might be somewhat ambitious. I am following Nigella's recipe.

Have sourced the Pedro Ximenez sherry (on offer in Sainsburys) and have got the dried fruit. I will start soaking that in the sherry on Sunday (it is recommended to soak this for a week). So the following Sunday, called mixup Sunday in pudding making circles will be the day I make it up and give its first bout of steaming (5hrs).

I have had that recipe bookmarked for years but I don't have the stuff for it. Maybe this is the year to give it a go!

We had 7 year old Christmas pudding at my in laws last Christmas, it hadn't improved with age.

Got the sherry. £8 in Sainsburys - which seems to be half price - though it is only a 50cl bottle. More than enough for the recipe though.Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.

Cakes are super easy davy! I make this one every year, but you can just use a regular bundt tin instead of the fir tree tin. You literally blitz everything in the processor then stick it in the tin and bake. A yule log would be harder than that.

My mother's bringing one of her Xmas puds when my parents come to visit next week. They are wonderful rich, dark boozy beasts, and I love 'em.

We've two tubs of the mix in the press for the last week or so. Ridiculous amount of alcohol was involved.

The ever shrinking Christmas sweet tin. It's getting to the point where the packaging is the majority of the product. I'd rather they charge more for a proper sized one.
Tesco are selling 1.3Kg tins of Quality Street for £8.99 which is a step in the right direction. They are actually tin too.Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009. -
I wait til they go on offer, I never pay full price. 2 for £7 in Morrisons atm.

I had sherry in Jerez (Sherry). It was horrible, a bit like wine fortified with piss.
