No Man's Sky
  • Fuck Raz. Those gotta be some of your best shots yet. Some stunning ones. That gigantic planet hanging the background...wow.

  • Excellent work raz, appreciate the effort.
  • Aye, I can't be bothered to go back to this at the moment but those are some gorgeous pictures.
  • Sorry, still too busy dying in the cold of space to take pictures.

  • @Raiziel   are you playing this on PS4 Pro?  Those shots really are stunning.

I can't help feeling though despite the amazing space photography on show in this thread, courtesy of both Trippy's and Raz's keen eye, their skillful camera work is somewhat guilty of perpetuating the myth that this game is some grand space opera, full of wonder and awe.

But it's not though is it?  Despite the welcome updates adding substantial new content, the pictures don't show you what's still awry. The alien vistas are spoiled by objects that still materialise mere seconds before your eyes.  Planet  topography remains uniform and dull. The animation of the xenomorphs is still shockingly bad.  This is all down to the limitations of the engine and the humans that designed its code.  But beautiful stills maintain the deception of a perfect world.

Guys, your pics make we want to keep on playing, despite the real truth that lies at the centre of this particular Universe.

I'm playing on the Pro, yes.

Can't argue with your grievances, Blocks.  I know there are fundamental problems with the game, and I can't imagine many/any of them will be solved by future updates.  But I enjoy the game in spite of them, and Hello Games have to be commended for sticking with their game and offering some substantial free updates, even if some them have compounded the games' original flaws.

Oh the joy!  After spending dozens of hours saving the space cash for a forty-eight slot ship I'd forgotten all the fun waiting around at a trading post for the bastard thing to show up.  A couple of super looking forty-seven slotters have dusted down just to make the experience all the more fun.

  • Got this for £13.60 in the recent sale at Green man gaming and have been playing it a bunch. Really enjoying it actually, much more than I thought I would do.

My main concern was that this was basically an 'early access' game of the type you see every other day on Steam being sold and marketed as a proper AAA experience, and while I think that comparison is still somewhat valid what's really impressed me has been how smoothly and seemlessly it all runs and plays, at least now it does, I gather there where some issues nearer launch which would be unsurprising. Compared to something like Space Engineers, an early access PC game that has similar space to planet gameplay, building and voxel destruction aspects, No Man's Sky just runs so much smoother. Nearly all other comparable indie titles I've seen all have serious performance issues, even on high end hardware. Admittedly I do happen to have some very high end hardware to play it on now, but the lack of stuttering and hitching is really important to keep that immersion and absorption into the game. Very glad to have those field of view sliders maxed out too, I think the default would seriously piss me off if I had to play with such a narrow view.

Started off with the permadeath survival mode, which was fun intially, but didn't end well. I think the survival mode is unfortunately just a bit broken, I was doing fairly well at one point until I landed on a planet with basically no Plutonium deposits. As you need a full 250 of the stuff every time you take off it just completely kills the fun. So I've been trucking around in Normal which seems just fine, it's a shame though as hopping from cave to cave dodging acid rain and murderous wildlife on an alien planet was often pretty thrilling fun.

It's one of the best chill games I've found yet, perfect to have some podcast or video running on a second monitor while playing. Really surprised at how fun the basic gamplay is too, digging into massive hill of gold and gradually gathering it all up is really quite therapeutic. Learning alien words is pretty compelling, and scanning stuff and naming planets is quite fun too. Only seen one other real person's discoveries so far, someone called "Hotmail", I think they must have just been passing though though, as there's only a couple of planets discovered by them, with what looks to be default names. Not really feeling like it's much of a grind either, apart from the survival mode which took the piss.

Here's some pics which probably aren't as kickass as Raizel's -

Hmm I think it's because they're not ending in ".jpg" or anything, copied image location from my Steam profile and such. Not sure what I can do as adding the extension doesn't seem to work.... Sorry.

Can someone summarise this game? It's a tenner in CEX and I'm tempted.

Is it easier to play than Elite Dangerous?
