The twat. But at the same time, the idea seems to be to keep this tribe like some kind of museum piece, which seems a bit shit to me. I know they fire arrows at everyone but that would hardly stop a proper attempt to contact them.
  • They are vulnerable to disease.
Also they clearly don't want to be contacted so leave them the fuck alone, especially if it is to spread fucking religion.

It seems like there have been a fair few proper attempts over the centuries, they seem pretty set on being left alone.
  • Yeah, they have a right not to be contacted it they don't want to be. Small lol at this guy trying the end game raid content for Christian missionarys solo and clearly way below the minimum level recommended.

Wanting to be left alone doesn't seem to work for most countries or groups of people.

Shouting Jesus loves you in English doesn't seem like the best plan really.

He was probably lapping it up, a painful death having pointy things jabbed in him while spreading the word, just like Jebus did.
    It's lipsmackingly good.

  • I like the fact they can do what they want and not be punished under any attempt at imposing someone else's law. The police chief was saying how they could hardly arrest anyone and everyone else just thinks, "Well of course they murdered him, wtf did he expect?". It's oddly pleasing.

  • The man was an idiot, clearly.

But I think that mocking not only his death but his beliefs might just be overstepping a touch.

A man died here, one who hadn’t actually hurt anyone. Yes, he shouldn’t have gone there. Yes, it was stupid, but some of these comments lack basic empathy and value for human life. He was most probably mentally ill. No sane person would have gone there. (And no, I’m not linking mental health issues with religious belief.)

Of course, he was not only religious but a Christian. The last remaining group it’s apparently okay to treat with utter contempt. Ah well.

If I ever get killed for my beliefs, as many of my fellow believers have, I hope it entertains you all as much.

  • On the other hand he could have and still may have carried over a disease that kills the whole tribe.

Sorry my empathy only stretches so far and doesn't stretch to idiots endangering others in the name of religion. My tolerance for people thrusting religion upon others is also incredibly short and isn't limited to any one religion.

If this was a Muslim or a Jew or pretty much any other agenda preach attempt they would receive the same mockery from me.

As for mental health and religious faith, well that is a whole other discussion around where the line is drawn tbh.
  • I did say he was an idiot and shouldn’t have gone.

  • To be fair, I'm comfortable mocking all religious beliefs.
  • I assumed people were being flippant when they said he deserved to die. All we know of his character is that he was an idiot. I don't suppose anyone seriously thinks idiocy should be punished with death.
  • I wouldn't say deserved, that is harsh. I mean if he was caught half way over I wouldn't want him to get the electric chair.
He played with fire and got burnt though and my concern is with the tribe.
  • The xenophobic tribe that murdered someone who thought he was helping them?

I don’t think idiocy should be punished with death, but in this case, what else should have happened. He clearly wasn’t wanted there but he kept going back. It’s not like the tribe could reason with him or call the police to get him removed. How else could this have ended?
  • 'This couldn't end any other way' is very different to 'deserved to die'.

What with the crusades, slavery and the fucking over of nearly all of the rest of the world, I for one look upon Christianity with the most contempt of all.

Please don't confuse "Christianity" with "power-hungry amoral scumbags who use a religious teaching of love and peace to promote their own agenda and slaughter millions of people".

People have used all religions, forms of politics and commercialism to grab power from the masses and slaughter millions. Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, various demagogues and tyrants throghout the ages. Some use Christianity, some prey on prejudice and fear, some use commercialism.

Viewing a whole group of people and system of values with "contempt" because it has been misused and misrepresented through the years is misguided at best and willfully ignorant at worst. Lay the blame where it deserves to be laid – with corrupt power-hungry nutters who would have twisted/abused any system available to them to get what they wanted.

  • I'm pretty sure it's OK to treat capitalists with contempt too. I mainly treat Christians with contempt (yes all of them) because they believe in Him.

  • So you hold me in contempt. Nice to know.

And I think that's my cue to leave.

    Some people are not religious.

  • Then just stop. It’s not really necessary to keep in a loop about it. You’re both solidly where you stand so why keep needling?

I'm only really addressing the bold because the rest is too much, but the man had treated the tribe with contempt by repeatedly attempting to visit them against their wishes. That is contemptible for three reasons:

    1. Indian law restricting access
    2. Island isolation and risk of diseases
    3. Cultural erasure. If he succeeds, like any other missionary he has shown contempt for another culture and attempted to supplant it with his own. No matter how well-meaning, it is contemptible.

Of course, it's sad he died but he really should have taken the hint from the first day where he was lucky to get away.
