You let women into these roles and they'll just take over, eventually enslaving us all. It'll be like planet of the apes.
  • Y’know, this is a lukewarm take but bear with me …

I’d try making future Bond movies period pieces. Set them in the past, where the character belongs. ’60s Bond. ’70s Bond, ’80s Bond. It gives you license to admit that he’s a misogynist, racist, murdering shit and just roll with that. All you have to do is change the perspective a little – introduce some progressive female characters, flesh out the characters of different races and nationalities properly, and let the audience see that Bond’s behaviour, whilst effective, is crappy and dated. It could be a lot of fun re-doing the old cheesy spy shit with modern budgets and production values.
  • Yeah tbh I'm surprised the family of EP's behind the franchise haven't fallen for the Cinematic Universe cashgrab.

i've thought the same. Bond in the modern day is boring, and too similar to any other modern action movie. but set it in a period where having a basic mobile phone would be mind blowing tech and I think you could have a lot more fun with it.

I would have picked Jane Bond, it's even closer.

  • Jennie Bond - Casino Royale Correspondant.
  • I've no idea why anyone is still remotely attached to Bond anyway. It's been shit for decades and clearly can't be reinvented in a way that makes it not shit. Period pieces set in the 60s and 70s would make more sense, but then just watch the old films. New ones would have nothing interesting to say.

Tarantino wanted to set Casino Royale in the same time period when Fleming wrote it, nixed by the producers.

I’m with Tempy, lady 007 is a big plot point, but isn’t the replacement for the series.
    Things can only get better.
  • I like the Craig Bonds.
  • I went on a date last night. We watched The Dead Don't Die. Keeping in mind that I have only watched at maximum 1 film per year since I was a teenager, I can state with certainty that this was one of the worst films I have ever seen. I feel utterly baffled that at how people were laughing. \I didn't get close to raising a smile even once.

First off, Bond is the central character. The series is flat and has been for a while but its centered on this one guy. If thats not working for ypu, don't make any more movies.

Bond is still the central character.
  • Revisiting 60s Bond where he’s full misogynist is the only interesting take in this day and age. Not that this production set up can really produce an interesting film.

As for Craig Bond- he has been kidnapped, promoted or retired. Lady 007 is road testing a new ongoing 007 franchise where they cast man, woman, camel whatever. Bond and Lady Bond will both be alive at the end of the film meaning they can take whatever direction they want when they recast the lead, presumably after this one.

    Final point, Bond is crap.
  • There’s been two(?) decent Bond movies since the 90s out of what, eight or nine? God knows how many before that are any cop. It’s not a high number though.

There was a display of Bond cars at Silverstone over the weekend because Red Bull/Aston Martin were celebrating the 1007th F1 race. Nearly half of them were modern Aston Martins, which made it a little bland, rather like most Bond films since Goldeneye.
  • Watched It Comes at Night last night. Tense but fairly forgettable I thought.
  • I love Bond movies and am excited to see where they go with this new direction.

I'd rather see new roles written for women and black people instead of body swaps. Shrugs.

I can see the woman angle bringing something different but what would be different about a black person in a modern spy yarn?

Look  at Dark Tower. Crap film I know but Elba was up to the task. Only thing was casting him gave away the fact that the Roland/Detta thing was being dispensed with - so it's one of the poorer examples of plonking a black actor into a role.

As for Bond as it's a modernised version of the original Cold War era role then colour is irrelevant; though the original role having a black person cast would be ludicrous.

Bond franchise has ample room for expansion - who is 005 or 003, or 009? Different type of agent for different missions. A woman could easily be slotted in that way and take the franchise into entirely new territory with scope for Marvel style cross meshing.

    But what do I know?

I hope she gets one of those bra guns. Empowering women and all that.
  • Surely it’s just that she’s the Bond girl and they’re equivalents which puts a new spin on it.

Bond will use an Xperia and a vaio when everyone in the civil service has an iPad.

If my experience with government IT is anything to go by, civil servants will have security hardened Windows hybrid devices running approved applications except for ministers who squeal and stamp their feet until holes are punched in cyber security measures by having non corporate devices using non-approved applications.
