David Davis: "Any regulatory alignment we get as part of Brexit deal for Northern Ireland will apply for the whole country."
Guardian I think wrote:He also insisted that did not mean retaining exactly the same rules as the EU or remaining in the single market.
Davis told MPs: “The presumption of the discussion was that everything we talked about applied to the whole United Kingdom. Alignment isn’t harmonisation. It isn’t having exactly the same rules. It is sometimes having mutually recognised rules, mutually recognised inspection – that is what we are aiming at.”
Or fuckwits for thinking it was obvious.WorKid wrote:Maybe they thought it was obvious?
Or maybe they are fuckwits.
That’s how it works now though. The reason they weren’t upfront about it is to stop the rest of the Tories kicking off because we’ll still be following EU regulations. It won’t be the rule-slashing, worker shafting utopia they’ve imagined. We can exceed EU regulations now, they’re just a legal minimum standard. They’re not doing this to make our products safer or our workers better protected.WorKid wrote:Well yes and no. We might decide our bananas need to be square and yellow.
Financial Services is yet again a good example. To sell into the EU your regulatory regime needs to be of equivalent strength, that doesn't mean the same.
Then you might carve out things that are made in one place, canned and bottled over the border, then shipped back, best enjoyed chilled.
Anyway the original implication was that NI bananas needed to be square but the rest of the UK can sell fish-shaped ones. That's now (apparently) not what they meant.

Let's not pretend there was ever an equivalence in the camps. One lot did the fucking research and fairly reasonably projected based on what we know of, y'know, humans and economics and shit; the other turned up with foghorns, intimations of ethnic boogeymen and trucks of arsehole money.
Tactically, otherwise - the latter won; that hardly makes it a Side Worth Considering beyond what the fuck to do about punishing the cunts responsible and otherwise formulating policies of action and agency that aren't retrograde isolationist piss.
