I'm getting really disappointed with the selection of travel cases available. Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be a decent option designed with the intention of carrying the console and those little Joy-Con strap things. There are ones that do it, of course, but they're a bit crap at holding the strap things without the risk of them falling out. Closest options are designed to fit entire additional Joy-Cons just a bit too thick to fit comfortably in my bag.

What is too big about that one? I don't see how that can make it that much smaller.
Have a look on etsy? Maybe someone else wanted what you're looking for and is making some cash off it?
