The Democrats had three major victories in 2017, and in races they wouldn't normally expect to win in. 2018 could be particularly damaging to the republicans.
I'm not entirely convinced that that will put an end to all this though. Trump's systematically dismantling the instruments of democracy in the US, and the Republican party are helping him. They've crossed the rubicon, there could be some very significant consequences for the US and the rest of the world in the next 24 months.
