So yeah, i got to hagger's in about 1h40, which i was fairly please with! Went
Spoiler:
Unspeakable Deep -> Sodden -> Alchamest -> Jester -> Kraken -> Tree, past all bar Kraken at first attempt (he did an odd flame thing one go, which shouldn't have hit me but did, and then glitched the next ).
So my Shrouded Bulwark was, as expected, pretty OP:
Spoiler:
Also just discovered I missed an optional boss in my main play through
Hoping I can get the Jaws of Death quite soon - sounds like the sword I really want . Then blast through haggers and the ziggurat, and then nearly done... can't remember if I need the dome or not...
Disenbowled Husk, Stench Most Foul, Untouched Inquisitor and Third Lamb all down, just got to the ziggurat which I can do both halves of as I have the other four brands already this time round - so just that, Ruined Temple, and the Witch (including the sorceror twice!) and I'm done
.
I'm also up to 131 attack power wielding the Jaws of Death, which is higher than I got at the end of my first run. A true merchant of death. Looks like my Str is already soft-capped, so turning to equip load and will have a look at shields too perhaps.
Wonder what the actual speed run best is. I mean I'm looking at sub 5h I think at this rate, imagine the best is a good chunk under again as I'm hardly streamlining things optimally...
Without glitching? Yoiks. Guess it's not totally inconceivable but beyond my meagre skills. Reckon I could manage a couple of hours if I worked at it but really can't be arsed. Tonight is my last night on it, then DkS3 .
Weird, I think that's where I came in- going from left to right, boss that was like a Christmas tree was there, killed him and explored upwards but I must have missed something.
Arrived at the bottom of the Cages, killed the boss progressed upwards and to the right to that area, found a bunch more sancs, but couldn't get any further because of red doors. Think I'm missing something I just need to explore carefully to find.
Nice. I finally made progress. I had to look online to my shame - it seems you can easily miss the cavern boss if you go straight to the cages which was my route. After a long time raging at fall damage, I finally found and killed the dude. The next area, swampy one, is fun but is lazily named. Glad I didn't jack it all in. I think it should have a map but I still like this.
I didn't like the swamp, but it gets good again after that imo. Still don't understand - did you do the caverns veggie the red halls? How dud you get to the caverns if so??
Yeah it's a bit of dip in pace for both areas. All I can remember is I went straight through the caverns to the cages boss, then found a bunch more sanctuaries after that, all blocked off by red doors. I was convinced I should have found another exit from the cages, but actually I needed to go back to the caverns. A map would have saved me an hour or so. Granted, my sense of direction is not the best in real life, but I think of all the 1:1 copies of style this tries to make of Souls all over the place, the fact that you can only see a certain amount in any direction on a 2D plane, means they shouldn't have tried to make it so you didn't need a map.
Like muzzy I'm not sure how you got to the caves before the red hall. I know there's loads of ways in, but I thought the only access to begin with was from the red hall.
I did miss the caves boss completely for ages though, but was coming from the other direction.
I missed the caves boss too, and heard through and out the other side without killing him.
The map point is interesting. Something like super Metroid has one without feeling you're loading a sense of adventure, Ori likewise as a more recent example. But yes, non-solsian.
I think a map would've been fine. There are a lot more similar gates and connections between areas than Souls games. The caves and red hall in particular seem to have about a dozen entrances by the end, and it's impossible to remember it all.
It became a sticking point since I can only play in such short, sporadic bursts.
Seems like I'm back on track now. With regards to how I got to the caves before the cages, maybe posting my sanctuary list would help us work it out? I think they appear in the order of unlocking. Anyway, I just agree with Jon, the cages have too many ins and outs not to justify a map.
Oh hai thar. Got this on sale over the weekend, nice looking game. Nice atmosphere. Mechanics are solid too, anyone finish or stick with it in the end?
