Just read up on it a little, and apparently Titans don't feature? Let's ditch the USP of the series and replace it with loot boxes and micro transaction cosmetics? All yet to be confirmed of course, but it doesn't seem to be aligning with the game your imagination conjures when you hear Titanfall Battle Royale.
Now I'm thinking about the disappointment of wall running your way into the final circle only to be ganked by a corner camper with the FUD pistol.
Given that titan fall 2 had excellent movement when out of the titans, I don't see that as a major issue. I hate how fortnite controls, so that's a plus.
Schrier from Kotaku is saying there was meant to be, but it was halted temporarily so they could work on this. Whether or not the work on 3 was left alone or assimilated into this BR game isn't known.
No titans is a bit of a stinker but as long as its buttery smooth I don't have much of a problem. Source engine still rocks, imo.
The pilot gunplay and movement in Titanfall is so damn good that I always preferred playing them to the Titans. I mean, Titans are still awesome, but trying to balance them in BR? Lol.
And cosmetic only microtransactions in a free game ain't a problem. It's the fairest way to monetise an FtP game there is. Only, not with loot boxes. Direct purchases like Fortinte, League of Legends, and even Titanfall 2 is the way to go. The thing there is you've gotta make the items desirable enough that people want to spend money on them, with Fortnite and LoL this isn't a problem - vikings, samurai, cowboys, angels, demons, whatever - anything goes in games like that. Fingers crossed Respawn can come up with some badass skins or there's gonna be problems.
When they're done badly they're a fucking disease.
Done right - Warframe, League, Fortnite - it can be a great model. If a dev makes an entire game freely available and supports it with continuous updates for years afterwards, and only asks that you buy some inconsequential dress-up to support them if you want to, then that's fine by me.
From what I've played both Titanfalls did a good job of balancing the speed and ability to cloak of the pilots with the power and being a big fucking dumb target of the Titans. A BR version that excludes Titans makes no sense to me either.
The suggested absence of wallrunning just turns this into someone talking pish.
I can believe the no Titan thing, but not the no wall running. Because it's just far too stupid.
I get what you're saying regarding Titan balancing, but if everyone drops into the map in their Titan then that's fair, right? As the fights break out then fewer Titans survive, and the ones that do are banged up. As there's no recharging shield you can jump out as a pilot and slap a core in to heal, risking being killed or someone hijacking your ride.
Sounds balanced and fun as fuck to me. Proper Titan war at the start, then some cat and mouse tactics through mid game into the end.
@Sparky You know what, I've changed my mind about that. It does sound fun as fuck.
It solves the typical BR problem of the first few minutes being either a roll of the dice in a hot drop or a boring scavenge around the quiet spots hoping for a lucky loot stash.
Also, those cosmetics you want people to buy will actually be visible on Titans, no one can make out what colour helmet a pilot is wearing, so they're pointless.
I suspect current gen hardware couldn't support 60 Titans at once.
My suggestion would be to limit Titans to one per team at any one time, cutting it to a more manageable 20 maximum.
Then change the mechanic so instead of earning falls with points have pick ups marked on the map used to call them in, that would force players together more.
I have no idea how much more intensive it is to have a Titan on the map over a pilot, but if other games can manage 100 players then make it 50 pilots with a Titan each?
I think comms towers to call in a titan would be great. A few per zone, switching on at random. Teams can fight their way to the tower, or hang back and attempt to ambush the titans when they're called in, plus the sight of a titan with 2 pilots hanging off its sided as it sprints to avoid the decreasing circle, all the while drawing fire from all around, would be great.
Titan drops can be bought for the small price of 5000 Tittykoins. Tittykoins can be bought with real money or using Falldollars, Falldollars can be earned just by playing.
Each Tittykoin costs 300 Falldollars, each Falldollar takes on average 1 hour of play.
Tech issues aside, some good ideas here. I'd go with:
15 teams of three, 1 titan per team, keep your titan alive. Player classes include repaired instead of medic. As long as your titan is alive you can respawn.
