My first one was a right mess. Comes from not knowing what to expect and improvising everything. Could hardly see where I was half the time because I hadn't left enough room for the camera.
It's only the subsequent chapters that I had some idea how things should work.
I think it's useful when you get blueprints not to try and fit them in to your structure. Just build them anywhere to get the request done then smash it up and rebuild a version that works with your layout.
I hadn't got round to a dungeon yet though, despite having chains and cell doors. Will make a nice one if it doesn't crop up anyway in the next chapter.
I went back to this today after a break to play FFXV. I'm part way through Chapter 3, had forgotten how lovely this is. Also, it's got a lot of depth and length, you could spend a very long time in each chapter to perfect your base, or just plough on through.
Looking forward to completing it.
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
I'm still on chapter one!!! Didn't even realise there were chapters until I came in here. I thought you just kept building on the thing you start with lol.
It's great, although I wish you could make curved things and corners and such.
I'd like to try free build mode too. What's that about? Is it randomly generated? Hope so...
I haven't tried it, but you unlock more stuff to use in free build as you complete each chapter.
I find it a really difficult game to play through quickly. The missions and requests are really there to give you ideas and introduce new building options, so if you just do those it's kind of missing the point.
Gone back to this now. Going to finish it this time. Chapter 4 leaves you to sort yourself out more and even has some pretty challenging battles. But quickly got back into the building groove and spent a few hours making the place look nice. Can't rush this game, but it's been good to have a break between chapters.
Demo out on the 27th of June, I've pre-ordered it anyway but it'll be nice to get a taste of what's to come. Looks utterly fantastic, can't wait to get involved, pass the pad with Nate will be delightful.
So the demo is nice but very short, much shorter than the first game's demo. I think it has a bigger area to explore, so I'll sate myself by doing just that. Still incredibly charming and the writing/translation is ace.
Nobody here is allowed to play Dragon Quest Builders 2 until they play and Finish Dragon Quest XI and then come back with a 2000 word report on why it is the best JRPG since Final Fantasy IX.
English or Chinese will be accepted. If, for cultural reasons, you wish to write in a minority / protected language, this will also be accepted. All other languages must first be translated and notarised before they can be accepted.
I’ve only just got around to putting some decent time into the first Builders (on Switch), and I’m still not quite done with the first episode. So I really shouldn’t be tempted by the second one just yet, but the improvements mentioned in the Eurogamer review make it awfully hard not to want it right away.
Even though I seem to be the only one playing it, beware of the shitty autosave on this as it appears to be corrupt on my son's save. He's lost hours of progress on Furrowfield, the main save reverts back to when he first landed on the island. He's took it well but I'd be fuming, I think the only thing to do is manual save before switching games/users etc.
Other than that catastrophe, we're loving the game.
