Yakuza - it's like Shenmue, but actually fun to play
  • Half a bill? Pauperous. Some of the upgrades are a billion each.

    That's just m' carrying money.
  • Imagine carrying that and trying to pay 400yen to play baseball.

The game's commentary on money culture is quite sharp.
  • Yar, they really went all out with the money thing.

Thoughts with minor spoilers about things from chapter 5-6:
    Spoiler:

It's a lot of fun, and I've laughed pretty steadily for a while now. But, I think the story and system design has suffered in order to allow that theme - lavish, disgusting wealth - to flourish. Change is good, so I'm not complaining because things are different. I am just feeling like, despite there being a lot to do, that worthwhile choices are incredibly narrow.

    Also, nugget = best manager.
  • Aw man, forgot how much I adore that Yakuza soap opera. Because that's what this series is - an ongoing soap opera about tough guys with gaudy clothes and massive tattoos talking about honour and feelings. Amazing stuff.
  • I want this and Nioh! But Mass Effect and Horizon are out next month too, wtf is with this time of year?

    It's fucking chaos.
  • There's also nier automata and a zelda and Mario sports mix.

I think it's everyone gunning for Christmas and fucking up.

I agree with your points cints. I carry on helping people because I'm a nice guy but most recently my priorities have meant I've ignored a couple of them when I'm just racing to grab my next billion and run past the plebs.

Remember when no games used to come out between January and the summer?
  • Been having loads of fun with a thing that opens up in chapter 7.

Also watched a load of soft porn just to befriend the manager of a vid shack.

  • The videotape side mission actually creeped me out a bit.

  • What sort of length are talking about? The game I mean you dirty minded people.

Are there a set number of side missions per chapter?

There's 100 side missions in the game - some are just conversations. Yakuza games regularly run 40-50 hours for most people, although when I did my game marathon a couple of years ago I streamed all of Yakuza 4 in 20 hours - entirely critical pathing tho.

Side missions are available from the start of certain chapters, not all at once. But once they are available they don't seem to disappear.

Also, there's a couple of major pieces of side-content that easily have 10 or so hours a piece.

I'm at 30 hours and I'm at chapter 7 or 8 but I've stuck loads of time into the side stuff. You could probably mainline it much faster, but you'd be missing out.
  • Also Matty, if you love dancing, Out Run/Space Harriet, darts, pool and bowling.... you could probably spend days not hours, playing this.

You forgot karaoke, super hang-on, hostess bars, telephone dating lines and fishing.
  • Cool cheers fellas. I think I'm going to have to go digital as physical is sold out everywhere!

Gave up on the fishing as I couldn't catch a thing!

Had the same problem at first - the tutorial ain't great. Forget rumble and visual cues with regards the fish - once the red part of the line is submerged, hit X.

Yeah, it's about but has, seemingly, been a surprise hit. I had the ask the dude at game if they had any in the back because it wasn't on the shelf - he went back and got me a copy. He is now my bro for life.

Same price as digital and I could have it, like, soon... Hmm.

  • Everywhere's bloody sold out!

Amazon telling me they're dispatching in 10 days & bit I want it NOW!

Finger poised over a digital version.

    1. Couple of questions - it's mainly a brawler, right? How good is the brawling?

    2. Really don't like the nilism of the gtas - I find them unfunny and depressing. Is this like that?

This game is funny and inappropriate, along with a fantastic setting, great fighting, brilliant mini games and a good plot. It's simply fantastic fun.
