  • Must not play pissed. Must not play pissed.

I knew a bloke who just about made a living from online poker for a bit. The secret was apparently to get on it after closing time to catch the drunks.

    I love playing poker.

But I hate playing online poker. It's just so boring after a while. At least in person you get banter etc, and you can read/bluff much more etc

My brother used to play online regularly. He won 5 figure prizes a few times. He reckoned he could figure out when people were bluffing online after playing against them for a while. I'm not sure I believe him, but he was pretty successful.

I can believe. They're bad enough sober tbh, although I suppose I could have been playing some seriously drunk West-coasters at 1.30pm here. It's amazing how bad a lot of people are anyway and probability alone will get you far. People were calling all-in with KQ and KJ pre-flop ffs. If you only ever raised with AK, AQ or any pair you would make money I reckon. I suppose the one today was for noobs and there are more expensive ones. Might try a little $50 one when I have the time. It's a long day for sure. Need a pint.

I think if you played properly by the book regularly, you would turn a healthy profit. You don't play the same people regularly enough for them to figure out you're playing safe.

I reckon he's right. At least, it's quite easy to see patterns in behavior if you pay attention. I noticed today that if I limped in after everyone before had folded and I was small blind, the big blind would bet heavy. I just waited until I had a monster and limped. They shoved and I knocked them out.

Mainly though, it's quite easy to spot if someone is just plain good or bad and if they're decent you need to take less risk. I also noticed somebody was, perhaps sensibly, just playing the odds. It was fairly easy to use that to bet heavy enough to make their bet not worth the risk and keep skimming that way.

Yep, just bet the odds and you might not win it but you'll get far enough to see the money. I can understand now how people can play 5 screens at once just on the maths.

I bet that guy just betting the odds still came out with a profit. There are so many bad players online. Same if you go to the casino after midnight, you can normally clean up just playing "properly".

  • I ended the night up on Chat Mag Bingo once.
  • Thought I'd try again and won on a Sit and Go. $5.60 for first place!

I were a betting man I predict I'll be homeless or a millionaire within a year. Just another quick one before bed.

    Probably homeless.

  • Decided to play another and it's having one of those 6 min breaks again. Doing ok, currently 6/153 players. Bit more stake up front with this one but the number of players is smaller which hopefully means it won't take 5 bloody hours.

SG deffo went death or glory, that's for sure.
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
  • Finished fourth. Rightly got called on a bluff but it was getting late and I was starting to play loose. Still, the pot is getting bigger. It was definitely more cautious with a bigger entrance fee but it wasn't like everyone was amazing or anything.

  • It's fairly common practice for some games to match you with bots disguised as humans for your initial matches, get you all hooked on winning etc.

Not saying that's the case here, but you never know.

I think Apex Legends is doing that to me periodically.

Just spent £1200 on an intensive driving course. That’s scary money, but it really is time I did this.

The driving test is the most stressful thing I've ever done. And I've done quite a lot of stressful things.
  • Do you get a 'guaranteed pass' for £1200, like you can keep taking the actual test until you slip through the net like a modern day Maureen?

No, I’ll have to pay again to slip through the net.
  • All I'll say is make sure you're mentally ready more than anything. It was that aspect of it when I done it that ruined me as the week went and on test day.

    Best of luck my man!
  • I'm just starting on driving lessons at the moment and I hate it, had my third at the weekend and just seemed to forget everything I'd picked up in the first two, instead spending around 90 mins struggling to turn left at junctions at anything above walking speed. The instructor still seems to think I'll pass by mid-May.

I’m currently more concerned about the theory test than anything else. There’s a lot of rules. Plus I figure if I made it through a month-long intensive TEFL course (a decade ago now, but still), I can manage this.

    But cheers!
  • Download the DVSA official theory test app and rattle it hard. You'll be absolutely fine.

I’ve already got it. Currently cracking through the Highway Code first.
