Went to the Manga exhibition at the British Museum today. Not enormous, and not cheap (though free for my two daughters), but some nice art, including some DBZ, Pokemon, Astroy Boy and Gihbli etc...

Extremely pissed I couldn’t afford to make it down for that

I had one of those dreams last night that leaves you with the residual emotions upon waking up. I've experienced a couple of occasions where it's generated quite intense feelings for someone which can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days before it dissipates.

I can't remember the context of the dream this time but it was certainly a bit of a downer so left me in something of a melancholy mood this morning. Weird. The power of dreams, eh?

Was it a dream in which you realised you weren't skilled enough to complete Hollow Knight or Super Meat Boy? I can see that would leave that emotional residue...
  • Remember all that stuff about reclaiming from payday loan companies?

I just got a compensation offer from Wonga’s administrators. I’m guessing they might have all gone out at once – anyone else had one today?

Good news: They owe me a few thousand pounds.

Bad news: “Please be aware, the payment you receive will be significantly smaller than your accepted claim amount. This is because it is expected that the total value of all accepted claims for customers/creditors received will significantly exceed the money available to be shared out. The money available to be shared out will not be known until all of Wonga's assets have been sold or realised and certain costs and deductions have been taken into account. Accordingly, it is not possible at this stage to estimate what percentage of your accepted claim value will be paid.”

They promise to have that figured out, and make final payments, by the end of January.

All of these stories are making me regret not making worse financial decisions when I was younger.

    Same.

    Enjoy your pint.

Kicking a man while he's down. Now that's classic Muzzy.
  • Amount accepted: £357.74

A further £150 was rejected for... reasons.
  • They rejected complaints against the earliest two of my loans, but upheld every one since then. I reckon they assume your first loans are perfectly normal affordable behaviour, but then when a pattern of repeat borrowing builds up it proves you were fucked.
  • They rejected 9 from 2010, and another from 2013, but accepted 4 more from 2010 that were mixed in between the rejected ones.

The 2013 one was the last one, and a year and a half after the previous one, so perhaps that has something to do with that one.

One of the most realistic dreams I’ve ever had, I was in a relationship with this girl I had liked for years. When I woke up I was so happy... for about two seconds. Then I realised what was going on. Man, that was a tough morning.

  • More on those payday loan complaint things …

I also had a complaint in against a couple of other lending companies, who it turns out are both fronts for the one firm. They’ve had so many complaint claims that they’re winding up the business because they can’t afford to pay out. So I got my email through yesterday with details of how to vote on how they proceed – either by shutting down and making a £20m compensation fund available (which makes compensation claims the priority) or allowing them to go into administration (which leaves business creditors as the priority – landlords etc). Obviously I’m voting the former, which theoretically means getting 80% of what I’m owed.

Here’s what blew my mind. The full list of companies owned and operated by this one firm. These were all payday loans firms in the UK at the same time. So even if you thought you were shopping around – you were still taking a loan from the same damn company.
Instant Cash Loans Limited, The Money Shop, Payday Express, Payday UK, Ladder Loans, MEM Consumer Finance Limited, Payday Express Limited, Inventive Finance Limited, Express Finance (Bromley) Limited, Cash Til Payday, Pay Advance, Payday Control, Fast Forward Loans, Payday Tomorrow, Payday Solutions, Wage Advance, Which Payday Loan, Payday Express, Loan Solutions UK, Payday Finance, www.paydayloansblog.co.uk, Wages Today, Express, Payday 22, Payday 29, Payday 36, Your Pay Today, Flexible Payday, Payday Manager, Money Bridge, Loan Lounge, Payday UK, Month End Money, MEM Advisors, PDUK, Payday Now, KW and Co, Three Month Loan, Keyes Whitlock & Company, My Payday Loan, The Payday Store, Ladder Finance, Ladder Credit, Ladder Loans, Kyzoo, Kyzoo Clear, Kyzoo Ultra, Kyzoo Classic, Kyzoo Flexi, Kyzoo Platinum, Kyzoo Vintage, Ladder, Ladrloan, Kyzoo Control, Kyzoo Black and Ladder Loans Lite.
  • Fuck me. Only heard of the Money Shop on there.
  • This is also why all the high street Money Shop branches have been sold off and closed.
  • That makes sense then.

The Money Shop is an old stager - I think it was around when I was single in the early 90s and on occasion was short of a few bob the weekend before payday and wanted to go on the piss.

I remember going in and asking what the deal was - the way they did it then was for example ...

I wrote them a cheque for £110 and post dated it for a week. (Might well have been longer - can't remember now)
    They gave me £100.

At the time it wasn't a bad deal for a young arsehole on a salary like me if I was desperate but I never used it.

  • I think they were a pawnbroker chain who got swallowed up by the lending/finance people. I can see why a high street presence would be attractive to them.

Just now when I started cooking I saw a lady holding a kid coming outside yelling "help, help" while on the phone and then disappeared inside again. She definitely saw me in the window. I went outside but her door was closed and I saw the neighbour above her looking around and he shrugged.
I felt a bit awkward and didn't really know what to do, what if her husband was violent or anything?I'm not that strong. Kept my door open just in case I would hear something else.
Didn't take long before a fire truck arrived, and I saw them wheel out an older lady in her pajamas after a while. Didn't look like she fell or anything and she was conscious.
The lady that yelled help left with her kid as soon as the fire truck was leaving as well.

I feel shit for reacting like a coward. Probably not much I could have done but at least she wouldn't have been alone with her mother (I assume) and her kid.

Nah, most anyone would be uncertain in those circumstances.  You were working with very limited info.  Whose to say charging out and demanding to be let in or whatever wouldn't have ended badly for you?  You did the sensible thing.
Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content.

    Probably, thanks Skerret.

Guess I'm just happy that calling 911 seems to mean that, at least in this area, someone will be there within minutes. This also means there isn't a day where I don't hear any sirens, as we live close to a senior home and I think a lot of calls come from there.
