Looks like this is happening despite my move not happening, will have to find some space in the office.
After discussing the idea with my dad he has run with it for my Xmas present.
I'm now the owner of a 13" CRT and VHS player plus copy of Top Gun.
I havent checked the spec of anything yet but my dad checked it all worked before gifting it.
Really random present but I'm excited to get it set up and see what happens.
I still have my PAL N64 to hook up to it as well.
I will have to pick up a Mega Drive at some point.
Preserve your video player well, and get a backup or two!
I remember visiting the BFI archives for work several years ago - they had a department working on digitising old beta and vhs tapes where no original filmstock of the content existed (eg old BBC TV show recordings). It was a literal race against time and they needed to be in touch with all sorts of video player specialists, as the players were degrading with the amount of playback needed. Basically it was like Mad Max - endlessly cannibalising old tech to keep it going because no one builds them new any more.
Liv, if you want 300+ taped from TV videos from 1987 onwards let me know so I can free up some space in my lock-up. No idea where the master list is though, so it'd be a lottery. I know Superman 2 was on no.8. In fact, if you're serious about kitting your room out there's all sorts of wonderful junk in there.
