The Comfort Zone
  • I will have been drinking first, it's true.

But yes, convenience is the thing. I dunno why I didn't grab any when I was in Seattle the other year. Probably because I was drinking.
  • I would very much like it to be legalised so I can enjoy it every now and again.
As you say Nick I dont want anything really heavy. Not to judge anyone here but I also have moral objections to buying it and feeding into a huge social problem. I'm sure there are ethical dealers of grass but I doubt they are easy to come by.
  • I can drink as much as I like whilst already stoned, but yeah starting to drink whilst stoned is a one way street to sleepyvile.

Liv, yeah that's the kicker, if I want to enjoy a relaxed smoke I a) have to contact a dealer and b) can't just buy a mild strain, it's all yeah blud this will floor you stuff. I think it will get legalised at some point, hopefully, because tbh it's far less damaging than alcohol is, but then again I've been thinking this since I was at uni and it hasn't happened yet because 'drugs' and drugs are bad. Except alcohol ofc.
  • Now would be the time.
It would bring in a fuck load of tax revenue. Out of all the PMs we have had in my lifetime I would think Boris would be the one to do it as well.
  • Yeah I think Colorado has seen a great boon from it?

I think we as a nation just won't accept it though. It's drugs, and drugs are bad.
  • 'we as a nation' urgh, sorry.
  • Its like sex with the British. Everyone is at it, nobody wants to admit it.
  • I'm definately not at it.
  • Let's include self satisfaction.
  • Be near water
He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG

Coffee shops are pretty much a thing here now. It's not as open and in your face as somewhere like Amsterdam, but there are places with menus and dispensaries etc. You can happily spend an evening chilling out in them.
  • Its rampant here anyway. I take the dog for his second walk at about 11am everyday and I will walk past multiple people smoking in the street and houses/flats with a distinct smell.

It is basically decriminalised, you have to pretty much be caught with a brick for it to matter.
  • Anyway back to comfort zones.

I find movies shot on Hollywood sound stages comforting. The false reality that is always clean cut and free of any conflict not crucial to the plot. Being on the sound stage also lends a dream like quality, half remembered half imagined. I read before that in dreams we don't create faces but can assign faces we know to other or imagined personalities, which ties in.

This all fits with not so much an accessible comfort zone but a place I can certainly point to for happiness. Visiting Universal Studios as a kid. Disney World is great, it is bloody brilliant but nothing compares to Universal.

You almost definitely vomited because you had been drinking first. Most people who don't touch weed very often find it goes down badly on top of alcohol. Logically enough you won't see the appeal if all it did was make you vomit.

This deffo. Smoking a joint when you're already pissed is lethal.

I hate the general '420 lol' culture but I do enjoy a jazz cigarette. I'd much rather smoke a doob of an evening than sink cans. I hope they make doing so as easy as grabbing booze from the offy one day. I shouldn't have to feel like a criminal because I like to relax with a herb.

Ideally I'd be able to pick a strength from the shop because yeah, all you can get these days is cheese.

Whats a jazz cigarette? Also what is meant by cheese in relation to weed?

I don't smoke so combustion is out but I did take space cake in Amsterdam once.

We were there as part of a crowd for a wedding. A mate recommended it one night but he didn't tell me the stuff he took was shared out - one cake between 4. Wifey and I took one each the day before the wedding.

It wasn't a bad experience - it is the source of many an amusing anecdote but the complete loss of control in the circumstances during the peak wasn't a good thing. It was over in 2-3 hours with no ill effect but isn't something I associate with comfort.

I haven't done it since and have no compulsion too. There's a couple we socialise with who were heavily into smoking - they turned into bores and it put me off too.  They kicked it eventually though when kids were on the agenda.

  • Never clicked with weed myself, though grew up around it thanks to dad and brothers. Back at start of lockdown 1.0 my wee brother was stuck sleeping on the floor of my dad's 1-bed flat, and for some reason they decided to compund their misery by both trying to kick the smoke. Turned to baking edibles instead, which they had fun with. One day he handed me a brownie that he swore was just a tester with nothing in it. Got a lift home from my other half and remember being stuck in traffic, then suddenly getting this warm feeling washing over me and thinking "oh for fuck's sake". Brother thought it was hilarious, wee cunt. The rest of the day felt infinitely long, though I got to spend most of it on the floor playing Rez and Tetris Effect, so it wasn't a total loss.

Weed is great when you're in the mood for it, and it's only now and again. If you fall into the habit of doing it all the time it becomes a shitty habit that's hard to break and isn't enjoyable.
  • I make the case that baking is a secretly destructive habit that some how bypasses the social stigma of weed, smoking and drinking but in some sense is legitimately just as dangerous over the long term.
  • Id love to try weed baked in a cake or something, cant smoke it  even if i had any which I dont :(
One day I took a pull on a jazz cig and just immediately retched. No idea why, Id smoked it many, many times before. Any time I tried since, same result.

Ive never really had super fun on weed but there was this one time.
I was only 17 or 18 and was in uni (of course). Me and the lads went to another friend's house for a party. Massive house with  about 8 bedrooms and whole place was jammed. There were many, many attractive ladies and plenty of drink. Normally in these situations we would immediately loose at least half the lads as they attempted to get in some(any sigh) woman's good graces. But instead we went up to the host's bedroom and sparked up. That night the weed really clicked. Some of the more chatty older guys were retelling all their best stories and jokes etc, my friend had put on some Hawkwind in the background and I dont know if Ive ever felt as laid back or chilled out. Everything was sort of warm and fuzzy and nothing really mattered too much. Total cliche but everything outside the room didnt really matter.
Its hard to put into words and it sounds super boring now I read it back but was an amazing night.

That’s the best thing about herb, only the moments matter.

Since recent respiratory probs, just the smallest pinch in a wee coffee - using this method is the way now:

  • Do you just have the bits floating in your coffee then? I've got a little green left that I'm fast what to do with, didn't enjoy smoking it last time I tried.

After baking, grind with a mortar and pestle to a powder. You still get bits but the milk, cream and sugar wash that down.

Fair warning, can take a few hours to come on and you only need the slightest pinch to get mellow birds.

Just the mention of the old BBC serialisation of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (gold foil cassettes sleeved in a black box) in the film thread got me thinking of where I go for comfort when life gets a little too much.

I got a copy of the LotR unabridged audiobook. First lockdown I went on walks in the local woods every day listening to the first book. Was really lovely.

Yeah, I love the Inglis readings. I think I’ve listened through the trilogy three times over on long drives to and from work.
