I know I should go back and complete Ocarina of Time. But no chance. Windwaker too.

Confession time. I am a massive Zelda fan in general, but I never finished OoT or MM. Never had an N64 at the time, and then going back, it just felt so janky to me.

so yeah I am probably never going to go back to those

I have fond memories of picking up Ocarina on launch day, and the moment I completed it I restarted and played it all the way through again. Then I started it again, but only got halfway through that time. Picking it up on 3DS I thought I’d rinse it again, but I guess I’ve changed and the game hasn’t and I can’t see me ever going back to any of the old Zelda’s now. Except Wind Waker. Maybe.

  • I'd love to play RDR, had it way back at release but only really did mp with my posse. I started it last year after finishing RDR2 but just felt the lack of some of the QoL stuff in the sequel. Holding out for a remaster tbh, if I can.

Had them both on cart. Have OoT on the bonus Windwaker disc. I won't ever play them to completion. I played MM - well - I fannied about long enough to see what the moon collision would look like.

LttP was a masterpiece. I'd consider playing that again.

The SNES. What a console. LttP and Super Metroid are the only two games of that style I have ever completed. Everything I've tried since just feels like a re-tread and doesn't keep me hooked.   I came close to completing Cave Story but I can't think of anything else.

It is. Metroid-ish.  I played the WiiWare version which offers the option of a slightly more polished look. The original look is fine and with charm. It's freeware on PC.

It's a bit more knockabout than Metroid. Its slick controls tempt you into rushing in and getting killed which is a laugh. Has that well built arcade feel and paced faster than Metroid but has the Metroid depth. The small amount of exposition is told in-game and doesn't get in the way.

I had Ocarina of Time for Christmas '98 and didn't get past the Deku Tree until about 2006, when I pushed through the brown just because I felt left out.

It was another Mario 64 victim for me, where I played that first and expected Link to handle the same, only in a much grander world. They finally got there with Breath of the Wild.

My OoT quest ended in Jabu's belly. Just got fed up wandering around. I went back to it a couple of times but just had had enough of that type of game. 3D has never really done it for me outside of driving games.

With Windwaker I was in a dungeon that involved puzzles raising and lowering water and moving between sections in the boat.

Twlight Princess - messed about on the horse (since I didn't reach that in OoT) and tried fishing for a bit. Then it went on my pile of shame.

I would like to return with WW. I liked the look of it and enjoyed the sailing around even if it was a bit empty. It was pleasant.

I really hate wandering about in 3D (and in 2D only to a lesser extent). It just feels like filler. Even that driving around in Forza Horizon between events started to annoy me after a very short time. Fuck that waste of time.

Once I got M64 and Galaxy done, that messing about in hubs and meta-levels was done and dusted for me.

Just give me a bloody level select and be done with it.

Jabu's belly put me off, I hate an escort mission, and I did stop for a few months, but once past that it's much better experience and loved it. Worth pushing through if you can (admittedly said with big ole' rose tints on).

  • I've barely touched Breath of the Wild. It was definitely a good game, just didn't grip me.
  • I came here to say I just started BoTW. AGAIN. About the 6th time now - the previous attempt got me into the first Divine Beast at last but then for some reason it got left for a year.

I was doing my best not to start it again and concentrate on Dread, but I was just a bit too fascinated to see how it looked on the OLED.

Well don’t leave us hanging; how does it look on the OLED?

Shadowman is a good shout. Over the years I've romanticised about the notion of doing another Morrowind play through, but I doubt it will ever happen. Some things are perhaps left in the past.

Morrowind too is a good shout, but I’d tentatively add Oblivion too.  I recently started Oblivion on the SX and with the 4K upgrade it somehow looks worse.  It was my favourite game of all time until Skyrim came out, but it hasn’t aged well.  I’d love even just a gentle remaster that softens some it’s harder edges, because it has some amazing faction quests.  A proper remake would be the dream.  Skyblivion looks incredible, but I don’t do PC anymore.

Shadowman interested me on Dreamcast but I fell into the usual getting stuck, leaving it for a day or two, forgetting what I was supposed to do,  and giving up schtick.

Headhunter on Dreamcast was a good one too but it fell to the same fate.   I just don't even look at that type of game any more.
