Got any next to your finger/penis for scale? Some of the tiny details are frightening, well toshed that man.
  • Cheers guys! I'm still a bit lazy with the details and so on, not got the patience for working out the optimum dilution got easy transfer of different consistency paints off the brush (white is a real shit, now it's fully dried it looks streaky so there's work to be done still)

    For scale

Outstanding. I wish I could be bothered putting the hours in but I tend to want to rush through and get them on the table because I'm an impatient bastard.
  • I have no playing commitments so I can take my time. I think I could have done a good rush job of these guys if i'd gone for a more metallic scheme and any other colour than yellow. These guys are so small and fiddly that there's no half measures though.

If I ever take up 40k, which with a Death Guard release on the cards I might, then I'll be making better use of speedier techniques for any daemons or poxwalkers. I really liked my Plaguebearers from a few months back and they took a quarter of the time.

I did a one hour splodge job on my Cry Havoc Pilgrims last night. They look absolutely terrible close up, but for 12 minis in that time they'll look just fine on the board when not being scrutinized under a painting light.

(This was before the Matt varnish so not shiny now)

I'm really not willing to spend more than 4 hours on this so I've 2 hours left to do 12 Humans and 16 Trogs.

The Trogs I'm literally going to just block paint and wash then varnish. That's it.

Tempy's Sky Dwarves give me a raging nerd boner.

Current flavour of the month for me is Shadow War: Armageddon. (Or as I like to call it Kill Team II: I Can't Believe it's not Necromunda.)

  • They'll look ace together though, and playing with painted stuff adds a bit of sparkle to whatever game you're playing, nice highlighting considering I imagine they're really wee buggers.

I've never tried varnish or seal, I'm terrified it'll fuck up all my work!

For varnish use the brush on Newton and Windsor stuff. I've never had an issue and as my minis get dragged about constantly to club etc it's needed to stop chipping.

    Linky
  • That's the stuff I use as well.
    Works a treat.

  • Does it just go straight on? Any thinning?
  • Straight on. Thin coats.

  • Hmm, might give it a shot after I move and i've touched up all the inevitable marks that brings.

Aye. Sadly I can't use my Chimera or Sentinel. Won my first game versus Grey Knights. You have to take a break test at 25% casualties. One GK of a total of three falls to a lucky shot, and he manages to fail a Leadership check. (GKs need to roll ten or under on two dice.) Game over, man.

Pondering a Harlequin or Inquisition team next.

  • I reckon I'll end up giving the game a shot after getting the new 40k box much later this year. I can see a Poxwalker/Deathguard squad being a lot of fun and easy on the eyes.

The gloss can be a bit icky if you put on a thick coat, I usually do 2 thin coats of either type and they seem fine.

  • Any suggestions for games for a 5 year old? Preferrably something for adults to enjoy as well.
I think @tin_robot and @FranticPea made some suggestions earlier in this thread?
    Thanks.

    Yup that too. I've bought a second copy for 4 player 7 X 7 or 2 player 9 x 9 :D

These are the ones I suggested for younger children last time:

Games we play/ have played with our kids...

For little kids: Shadows in the Woods - Age 5 and up but for reasons that will become obvious, needs an adult.  In many ways, this isn't a technically very great game, but it's absolutely beloved in our household, and still gets wheeled out every Christmas despite our kids being significantly older.  The kids basically form a team in which they help their dwarves hide within a little cardboard forest.  The adult then controls a candle which they move around the paths in the forest itself.  On their turn dwarves can move freely in shadows, and their aim is to bunch together under one tree.  But they can't cross any patches of light.  The candle can therefore freeze them in patches of light, with the aim of catching them all. So, like I say, technically not that amazing.  But the effect of the game is that your children get to sit in the dark scheming about how to defeat their parent, with only the one flickering candle.  The game's kind of crap, but the effect is none the less magical.

Mousie Mousie - A really old game and one that's deeply unsophisticated, stocking filler stuff, but that is generally really liked by small children.  It's basically a reflex game.  You all have little mice, you roll a dice, and depending on the outcome you have to pull them away before someone slams the cup on top of them.  That's it.  Kids love it.

Loonacy - Glorified Snap for up to 5 players.  I hate it, absolutely everyone else seems to think it's amazing.

In addition I'd definitely second Rhino Hero and Coconuts.

Also there are a couple of kids versions of regular boardgames that are worth a look.  I really like the kids version of Quoridor.  (It's a strategy game where you either move your piece or place walls.  The kids version has a smaller board, and replaces the pieces with mice and cheese, but is arguably every bit as tactical.  Consider it a sort of beginners chess.)  I've also heard good things about the kids version of Ticket to Ride, but I've not played it.

Yes. There's a 2 player version too called Coconuts Duo.

You can get both and do 6 players.....if you're mental.

Yeh I imagine having 6 monkeys firing coconuts would be mental.

  • Great advice and help. Games ordered.
    Once again, many thanks.
  • No internet for a week means I caved and bought that new pack of 3 snap to fit Death Guard Plague Marines. Amazing kits for the price.

    Amazing stuff Tempo.

Any of you lot not fancy Gwent? I'm absolutely obsessed with it, it's really really good. It's fairly generous with the rewards too. You occasionally come across someone that has obviously ploughed a fortune into it, you can tell by the number of Legendary and Rare cards they have, but so far it's few and far between. I've unlocked ranked but I'm sticking with casual for now until I'm happy with my deck.

I've had some amazing games of it, some epic matches that I've pulled victory with some savvy split second thinking. It's a lovely game.
  • I'm so shite at those card games that I am staying as far away as I can, but I am glad it has a full release as it was clearly something people loved.
