That's all my bits on the way. Ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb corsair ram, MSI b550 A Pro motherboard and a Corsair 750w modular psu, 1tb ssd and 2tb sata. I'll wait for 30xx graphics card.
I just realised the case I bought has no slot for an optical drive. So I considered cancelling it, the realised that I've used the blu ray player in my current pc maybe twice in ten years. So I guess maybe it's no big deal. Is there some easy way of converting the internal blu ray player into an external one via usb cable or something like that?
If the Blu Ray you already have is a SATA (which it most likely is) then your best bet is to buy an external enclosure. This will help you convert it into USB and you can just plug in when needed.
I use my Blu Ray drive a fair bit for ripping films with MakeMKV and compressing via Handbrake, It's really nice to have built up my own film collection with actually good quality and all the special features. Streaming is shit.
You can definitely get pretty cheap adaptors to use SATA drives externally, I have one for hard drives which is useful for repurposing old HDDs into spare backup drives.
I might just do without for the moment and if the need pops up I'll see what I can get. I don't think I've ever actually put a blu ray disc of any kind in it, only dvds and cds. I can't see blu ray becoming more popular at this point either.
Yeah it's really sad as I also can't see a proper top-quality film download service without insane DRM bullshit becoming a thing any time soon either, though that would make a lot of sense from a few perspectives. Hopefully the blu ray format will linger on for a good while for the enthusiasts.
FFS my pc just died. It was on standby for the night last night. My kid played it for a little today and shut down. I go to turn it on and nothing. No fan spins or anything.dead as a dodo. I disconnected all connected peripherals and same, disconnected the gfx card and same. Any ideas ? Is it the PSU?
Might be worth looking around to make sure nothing is shorting against the motherboard, like if standoffs are left behind the board they could make contact with something and cause issues. Or loose wires touching something. May as well reseat the CPU too.
It does sound like a PSU or shorting issue. If the CPU was incorrectly seated it would still spin up the fans and flash lights I think. if it's a PSU issue, then fingers crossed it hasn't taken anything with it.
