Assassin's Creed
  • It does throw loot at you at an alarming rate, but engraving costs are relatively low and allow you to put together specialist builds (combat bonuses against animals particularly useful when taking on legendary beasts, etc)

Finding the engravings via the vague descriptions on the tablets is oddly old skool however in a game with markers and icons pointing you everywhere.

Season pass is discounted on PSN presently, sorely tempted.

  • Yeah engraving is fun and relatively harmless in so much as if
You engrave you favourite pieces you can keep them for the right situation

  • Suppose I haven't got any super special weapons yet...at what should I start to find the really good stuff
    Peter3C
  • Also I'm doing tons of bounties, will they stay active if I progress main story a bit too...this is my main criticism so far of Odyssey bit of disconnect cos so much side stuff
    Peter3C
  • I didn’t do any bounties but the blue online ones disappear eventually iirc
    The Forum Herald™
  • You could find the 'really good stuff' by going after the Cultists.   Tracking down a whole branch of them will reward you with a legendary armour (gold) sets (you'll get pieces per cultist killed) which will auto-level to your current level when the final piece drops.  Equipping all legendary for a given set rewards you with a hefty special engraving bonus too, set specific.

Although going after all the Cultists can be more of an end game pursuit.  Conquest battles reward purple drops (epic) as do your bounties (which are only time specific, if they are part of a weekly challenge - check to see if there's a countdown clock next to them in your quest tab)

There can be some disconnect with all the side questing, but you dip in and out of the main quest regardless.

  • I’ve just been following the main storyline and I have several gold and purple bits of gear already
Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.
  • It’s pretty generous, there’s cool pieces hidden in most of the tombs too along with a bonus ability point.

It’s also about finding a weapon type that suits your fighting style, I didn’t like the heavy weapons and tended towards daggers and swords with an emphasis on stealth abilities meaning a great chance of one hit killing

  • I'll pick up odyssey when it's a bit cheaper because of money but I've recently dropped back into syndicate again which is still a pile of fun to play.

I did some CEXing and now own Origins "for free" (and indeed with credit left over) having offloaded games I've since got on ps+/gwg/ea access. Result.

  • There are certain ways to get round that first 'boss fight. The cleverest one I heard of is to get yourself a bounty and lead the Merc who is tracking you right into the lions den, so to speak, and let the two of them them duke it out while you hammer on the beast from behind!

Was a bit disappointed that a couple of my quests timed out, that was weird.

  • Level scaling in patch that drops today. Might choose that option where they're always 2 levels below so I can fly through some areas although hasn't been a problem yet for me. I'm only level 22...

  • Yeah, Ubisoft are doing a great job supporting this post-release. Reminiscent of CD Projekt and The Witcher at its best.

  • I can't find the level scaling option anywhere...not that I need it right now but can someone tell me where it is
    Peter3C
  • There wasn't one when I played. The default is to have the levels scale up to two behind you as you pass them.

So for instance when you get level 10 all the stuff up to level 8 will stay as it is then move to level 9 when  you hit level 11.

  • I stopped playing Origins as whilst I was enjoying it I’d got to the point I wanted to simply finish it so stuck to the main missions, unfortunately they weren’t scaled so became too irritating. If there’s been an update I’ll go back to complete it as I was enjoying the story.
  • I've been playing Odyssey over the last couple of weeks - My first Assassin's Creed!  (well, I've tried a couple before, but immediately bounced off them, so they don't really count)

It's one of those games where I could do a grocery list of bits I don't like or don't think work all that well, but then there's just as big a list of things I love!  It's only been the last couple of days that it's really dragged me in, with an abundance of side tasks that I absolutely have to see through to the end (I'm level 35).  Seem to now have a good idea of which tasks I don't interest me too and can curate those out of my game.

Not sure what to make of the story - in that it seems like perfectly good adventure game fare with an excellent and fun main character (and a mostly fun cast), but it's a bit poorly told - like some bits seem to peter out into an anticlimax, there's some of that video game 'kill 100 blokes and I'll give you some information that's vaguely helpful' stuff, and a lot of the Assassins Creed lore goes over my head.  Not sold on the dialogue trees either; they seem a bit stilted.

But yeah, it says a lot that I planned on mostly just bashing through the main quest within a week or two, but it's gonna take a month to see everything I want now.  Impressive stuff on the whole and I'll check out more Assassins Creed over the coming months.
When you got movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can't lose
  • Relented and got the season pass.  Coming off the back of RDR2, it's a joy to return to this world, where you can freely traverse environments with a leap, a jump, and a hop(lite)

@pc71   the option to tinker with the level scaling can't be found in the main menu.  You have to load a game first, then whilst in-game, go into the menu again and go into 'gameplay'.  It should be visible then (and it'll prompt you to re-load game to effect the changes)

  • Level 27 now and haven't touched rdr since Xmas. I can't believe I'm saying that

  • Had no idea this was so cheap (in the PS4 sale). Can’t justify buying it with the amount I have to play.
  • Do it! It's so BIG, that once you get it, you'll never need to play any other game ever again!

I'm the same. You think it's only £15, but I haven't looked at my consoles for about a month. Battlefield 5, COD BO4 and RDR2 untouched.

Although I think I might pick up Super Mario U Deluxe today.

Yeah me too.. Think I might trade Civ 6 as I'm really just not going to get into it.
