I've scrolled through it three times but can't find Rocket League anywhere. -
Arkham Knight's in there instead of Asylum or City. What? -

I think there's maybe 10-15 games on there I feel are tough to make an argument for inclusion/think they've got the wrong numbered title.
As for R-Type: Final, I feel like we did this chat already, but unless the text states it's on there as a Best In Class, I am assuming it's there because it's unique in how it feels like a museum/poem/elegy for a series, and how it plays at a funeral pace due to that. -

The games that stick for me are:
Hyper Light Drifter - no thanks - there are better games in any given year than this.
Puzzle and Dragons - I know one of the staff writers has like 900 hours on this, but I don't see it myself. As the apex of those kind of freemium games I guess it earns a nod.
LoL/Dota2 - pick one to sum up the whole field, and that one should be Dota2, natch.
Arkham Knight - Asylum or City
Transistor - there are better games in any given year than this.
Far Cry 4 - 2, surely.
Bayonetta 2 - The first is far better.
Most other entries make sense to me. -

I believe Margaret Robertson (inson?) married the designer of D7, so I think it's safe to assume that they've stopped shagging.

It's just luck. The outcome is entirely down to the random allocation of numbers, there's nothing you can do to avoid defeat, and high scores are just about getting a lucky run.
I caned it pretty heavily for a month or thereabouts so there's something compelling there, but it felt wrong and dirty, and I was glad when I kicked the habit. -

I played it when abroad the other week and it's enjoyable but apart from some basic tricks luck plays too much a part. Still enjoyable.
Puyo, in particular Puyo Puyo 2 - which is the finest puzzle game ever created should be far higher up the list. It's a deeper game than Tetris but hasn't got the same accessibility or compulsive feeling one gets from filling in gaps.Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
