Looks fun, and I would guess there is an increased player count because there was a ton of soldiers on screen in that video.

Single player has always just been training for multilayer anyway (not including bad company, they were okay sp) so not too bothered about it not being there. I'd like to see what the support plan is though. How are they going to keep the player base engaged?
  • The price difference between the One and X/S versions is an absolute piss take.

  • No campaign?
    Bah... That's shite.

Is there a BR mode? Really hope not, that shite can get in the bin
Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.
  • Battlefield 2042 Game Overview – Electronic Arts (ea.com)

Only 7 maps at launch, season passes, Hazard Zone is a secret and there's something else unspecified. This seems incredibly risky for DICE and the consumer, especially when the next gen console install base is low.
  • That's a lot of money for seven maps.

  • "We’re taking a new approach to live service for a Battlefield game where players will be given the services and evolution they have come to expect from modern multiplayer games, all aimed at keeping the community playing together for years to come.

We’ll be evolving our world and expanding on the fiction through Seasons, each one lasting for about three months. Every Season will come with a new free and paid-for Battle Pass, delivering new content to chase after.

In our first year of live service, we will deliver four Seasons, with four Battle Passes, four new Specialists, along with more fresh content."

  • Hazard Zone is surely a BR variant.
  • I'd imagine so.

I'd prefer a move back to 12v12. You get a better feel for the flow of the match and can make a difference.

Fuck knows what's going on with 128 mooks wandering around randomly
  • On second thoughts, if this is just a MP thing then I'm out

  • Also... Live service? Nah, fuck off

Aye. Moar does not generally equate to better in these games.

  • Jackfrags said he went to a press thing and DICE categorically stated there’s is absolutely no BR mode. Thank God.
I wager Hazard Zone is like the zone in The Division. Or something very similar.
He said they were told that DICE LA are working on a separate mode that is a homage to classic BF games.

It looks to me like BF3&4s greatest hits which I’m100% stoked for.
I despised BF1 and BFV was a love hate relationship so thank God they’ve gone back to present day/near future.

Elliot is 10 in September, which will mark 10 years since Battlefield went shite. Playing Metro (was the beta I think) when I got home from a long day at the hospital and wondering wtf they were thinking. Worst map ever.

I have 0 faith in this being good but will happily be proven wrong. In when it hits Gamepass a month after release.

    1942, 2 and 1943 were great. I liked 2142 but it was quirky. I liked 3 despite its issues. 4 wasn't great. 1 and V I hated.
  • I disagree. It would have to be one hell of a BR to draw players away from Apex and Warzone.
And EA won’t want to be eating into their Apex player base.
The development and support of one would take a huge chunk of developer resources and right now I think the door is wide open for a good non-BR that attracts those that aren’t the slightest bit interested in Warzone or Apex. CoD don’t seem to care anymore about standard MP.

I don’t go that far back.
My BFs are all 360, BF Modern Combat onwards.
BF3 seems to be held in some esteem nowadays. I didn’t think it was great at the time, I suspect there’s some rose tinted spectacles at play. Some of the maps were good but I didn’t think it was amazing. I loved bad company, it took me a while to learn to love BC2 and I thought BF4 was great, though it did lean a bit too much towards the CoD meat grinder crowd when it came to map design. I.e. Lockers.

I’d play BF4 now if i could find servers that weren’t running 24hr Golmud and Lockers on Bone.

  • There’s all kinds of things in BFV that I hope to god don’t crossover but I suspect they might.
The vehicle spawn in 2042 seems to be some kind of ‘call in’ possibly a Battlefront score reward type of thing. I personally think a map should be balanced to fit x amount of tanks, choppers and planes. Not allowing people to spawn what they want when a vehicle slot becomes free. I think that’s one of BFVs issues.
The other was transition animations. Climbing in and out of vehicles was pretty and immersive but it actually seriously nerfed players abilities to perform the inventive sandbox tricks that BF has been known for for some time.

  • Ah well Battlefield is the only series I have any passion for.

I always really enjoyed when most of the team spawned at base waiting for a vehicle and then got in a people carrier and shot off by themselves, drove up a mountain on the far side of the map and stayed there sniping for the whole game. I really hope that type of thing is in the new game.
  • Mostly fixed in BF4.
But that’s not going to go away with any system.

  • I used to love Lancang Dam on BF4. You could single handedly spawn-lock a proportion of the other side large enough to win the match, just by taking up residence in the tiny village up the road from their spawn, and causing absolute chaos every time the fools tried to roll through in their shiny new vehicles.
BF4 had a lot of issues, but it was God Tier stuff when the best maps were firing on all cylinders.
