Agreed top work old Kirby. Also surprised Death helped him pass on.
I used to have the Unseen University versions of the first six books but stupidly sold them when I was broke years ago. Made a decent profit off them but in the long run probably wasn’t worth it.
FYI, Tales of the Perilous Realm was recently reissued to match the recent illustrated editions. Also, The Nature of Middle-Earth is now also getting a deluxe edition that is up for pre-order some places.

Perilous Realm is on my list. Will be getting The Nature of Middle-earth, but not the deluxe edition. I didn’t get in early enough with those editions when they were printed in Europe. The prints from China that are available now are notoriously poor in quality. So I’ll get the illustrated hardback to match the others I have on the middle shelf.
This is a nice collection of Russian novels in softback from Penguin with Russian textile design covers. Have 5 out of the 6 so far (have only read 2....)
Yeah - I'm eyeing up War and Peace, Anna Karenina and Dr. Zhivago and wondering which to go for... War and Peace is LotR level commitment with the added fun of those Russian names!!
Just finished Crime and Punishment (I keep subbing "Sin" in for Crime!!!). Might take a break and go back to these but I wanted to get them in case they knock the series on the head with those covers.
They are very afforable and attractive to the eye....Folio equivalents would be pricey and I'd want to read them before committing to that - though Master and Margarita would be Folio-worthy for me as I love it.
As far as the classics go my white whale is...well...Moby Dick. I got a quarter of the way through that when I was in my teens. I think I’d appreciate it a lot more now I’m not a spotty teenager. I’ve checked Folio Society a few times recently and their very nice edition has been out of stock each time. May just end up grabbing it on Kindle.
Aye....I gave up just over half-way through War and Peace back in my late teens. I just wasn't getting it. Managed Les Miserables but not W & P. Never tackled Moby Dick. I had a copy of that and Tom Jones and never got started on them.
My modus operandi now is to read stuff on Kindle and then go for a nice edition if I like it. I've made an exception for these though. Except for Master and Margarita which I first read on Kindle several years ago.
My Folio conversions so far are LoTR, Dune, Atonement, Rogue Male, Great Gatsby, Philip Larkin Collected Poems and A Christmas Carol. Master and Margarita is probably next purchase.
Heh. Gatsby has some nice coloured illustrations within too. A worthy edition. I thought it was still available....can't believe it won't get another run as it's one of their best sellers.
