Everything > Airbag, partially because Kid A > OK Computer. Although, as it happens, In Rainbows > both of them, but I'm not sure that 15 Step quite qualifies as a great side 1 track 1.

As it happens, I agree with Fenton that 2 + 2 = 5 is probably Radiohead's greatest S1T1, but Hail to the Thief (as great as it is) isn't in the running for their greatest album, so that kinda disqualifies from this list in my mind. To me, a great T1S1 has to be the opening salvo of a great album.

They're all good openers but EIIRP was a bit of a statement. Packt, Bloom, 15 Step and Planet Telex are all worthy too. Good stuff.

I wouldn't say all of mine were awesome songs, but they set the stage/scene/tone/intent for what follows. Free Fallin, Movin on Up, Birdhouse and Holidays in particular.

I quite like a good curve-ball opener that leads you into thinking an album is going to be quite different to what it eventually turns out to be. But those type of openers are rarely great songs in their own right. Sometimes the best openers are the ones that just crash in and start an album off with a bang (Search & Destroy, Like a Rolling Stone etc).
