The solo on Another Brick in the Wall is nigh on perfect. Everything a solo should be - carries on the feel of the song, lovely phrasing, no showing off or wankiness, doesn't outstay its welcome. It's as memorable as any lyric on the album.
Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content. "I'm jealous of sucking major dick!"~ Kernowgaz
Also shout outs to 80s metal outfit Dokken, but more importantly their guitarist George Lynch who basically kicks ass for four and a half minutes right here:
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
I have fond memories of going to see Steel Panther back when they were just starting (2009) I believe and they had one hell of an extended guitar solo. Started off as basic stuff but evolved into a medley of classic metal riffs and even ended with Flight of the Bumblebees...
Gamertag: aaroncupboard (like the room where you keep towels)
There's an awful version of that somewhere on YouTube played by Vai, Yngwie, Bettencourt and other twiddly wankers all together at the same time. It's a tune that lends itself well to wankers.
I've always been a sucker for a soulful solo, particularly if it's technically interesting too. Some of the guitar work on this is spell-binding, especially considering Dave Navarro was off his tits for most of the recording sessions (I'm sure I read that he couldn't remember writing or recording the majority of this album)
There's nothing wrong with simple either. I'm a poor guitar player, but I taught myself to play a fairly faithful version of this by ear. Meh him or loathe him, I love The Knopf. He packed most of the theatrics away decades ago, but I'll always love the way he makes a guitar sound (tasteful solo at 1min15):
