I've been playing on bone for over a year.
The game in many ways is brilliant, atmospheric and impressive BUT...
It's grindy, very grindy, there's little actual scripted content, you have to make your own objectives up and decide what you want to be and do, and it's slow, traveling is slow, progress is slow.
In many ways it's like having a job but in space.
I've ground my way to one of the biggest most powerful ships available and then completely lost interest,i will definitely pick up the other seasons they release and the return of the thargoids will defo see me playing again but for the time being i ran out of motivation.
Oh and there's no in-game hand holding. You are on your own, you have to figure just about everything out from 3rd party sites etc...
The tutorials will teach you some basics but not a lot.
I played for a week ish a while back and i was in awe circling an ice ring planet which looked gorgeous then getting closer and closer until the rings turned into ice rocks and just
The job like nature of it sounds kinda attractive tbh. Ive watched some vids and it seems super atmospheric. And the story about the ice rings...awesome.
I checked and it is playable in solo mode without ps plus. What exactly am I loosing out on? Or would it be a bit of a waste to play it without the multiplayer?
Nah, there are NPC ships flying about minding their own business. Or killing you and taking your shit. I'd say it's better to play it single player and learn the ropes before attempting any MP.
The multiplayer is MMOish, or meant to be. You are not really missing out, the galaxy is so large you won't really see anyone apart from the starting area and the popular community goal sites.
Lots and lots of gankers out there and as you die had real in-game money consequences they can set you back. But interaction is limited so that's why there are gankers.
You can wing up for some protection but there's no warping to another player so they have to be local.
You can do the multicrew thing by warping to the other player and take a station in their ship off their hands though.
It's a real time sink. You can't just pick up and play for a few minutes. And to hell with being a trader or a miner, being a bounty hunter is the way to go.
Elite is currently downloading...I went for the base game. Will upgrade at a later date if I put the time in. I've not played a game like this since Frontier : Elite 2 back on the Amiga.
I really really really wanted to like it. Heck, I bought a Xbox just so I could play it (back when it was uncertain whether or not it would make the leap to PS4). I just found it so dull and devoid of life.
It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map
Quite a few temptations - Yakuza 0, Valkyria Chronicles, Rez Infinite, I Am Setsuna, Darius Burst, Wonder Boy DT. Might grab something towards the end.
What was the name of that walking sim everyone liked recently (Tempy and Elf in particular iirc)? Is that in there? The digital only bit isn't working on my browser.
